Ruger #1/3 Why so much?

I just picked up another one myself - found out a buddy was heading to maple creek for the gun show and had his 28A! for sale - GRABBED it!!
I have owned more number ones in my life time than other type or brand of rifle. Well built, accurate, and most has some nice wood on them.

Always liked the idea of having a single shot rifle! Makes one appreciate that thought of making the first shot count!

Also because these rifles were not produced after 1986 & in this chambering, only around 200 were ever made, makes them rare & is another reason they hold a high value. Perhaps not to those folks that don't want or appreciate a single shot, but there is always someone out there that will & will pay a good buck to acquire one. I know, because I've done it many times! It's like that with everything in this world.

JMHO....

ruger no.1 rifles are very well built rifles they are not in the same class as an average savage or tikka for an example. there is a lot of steel in these rifles that has to be milled by craftsmen. there are no stamped parts or plastic injection molded parts in the no. 1
it is true that ruger had some qa qc issues with the no.1 for a period of time but they seemed to have got this under control, one of there bigger mistakes with the no.1 was using an outside source to manufacture there barrels for period of time. ruger has stoped doing this and the accuracy of those rifles has improved a great deal. i have owned six of these fantastic rifles over the years. my no.1 stainless laminated .270 win will shoot 1 inch groups all day, as long as i do my part, as a matter of fact that rifle shoots better than i do
