Ruger #1 303 British and moose

Has anyone put there Ruger #1 in .303 British to work yet?

This week I scoped it with a 2x7 Vortez attached a leather military sling, and sighted it in yesterday.

The Ruger worked well with Federal 150 grain bullets today. 1 shot, 1 anterless moose.

I got one pic of it gutted and 1/2 skinned with my Randall Model 22 laying on it. I should have taken a few more pics. But my buds showed up, and we got talking and working, and forgot to take more pics.
 
Maybe ten years ago, I would have believed this story. Today though, with a dozen years of internet education under my belt, I know better. It's highly unlikely a 303 will kill a moose with one shot, especially with a 150 grain factory load. :) Regards, Bill
 
dont you know that only win mag, wsm, and ultra mag and in 30 cal or bigger will only just barely kill a moose what you really need for the super armor plated moose is 338 lapua or better yet 50 BMG
 
Hey CV32, Yep, they are good looking guns for sure. All the guys that I was with thought the rifle was pretty cool. The caliber makes the rifle for sure. Back in the day, my first Alberta deer was shot with a full military Lee Enfield .303, so I have a soft spot for the .303.

Hey Bill, Really, the 150 grain bullets bounced off, so I whacked the moose with my Light Infantry Tomahawk!!!

Just wanted to let everybody that was in on this project that we have, by luck, just obtained a bit of 303 brit fresh brass. Here's the good part. Its several years old but the boxes look like they've sat on a shelf for 20 years, which is exactly what they did.
I have a few 20 ct boxes of Winchester for 15 per box and a very few CIL for 16 per box. I will post this in the proper EE forum and in store but wanted to let you guys have first crack at these.

Thanks for the orders, still a few boxes of each. CIL are going quickly. Like many of you, an ol' 303 and CIL loads accounted for my first several big game animals. I'll be keeping some CIL brass for my own 303's ;)

My Ruger #1 in .303 British shoots Federal 150 grain bullets quite well. I imagine that if the bore size was .314 to .316 they would have rattled all the way down the bore and given me 2 foot groups at 100 yards as opposed to the 1 1/2 inch groups I am getting with the Federal bullets.

I haven't handloaded yet, so I am sure mine will shoot even tighter. But those Federals worked well on moose. Deer are next on the list.
 
If Ruger copied the bore size from some old SMLE, they may indeed be .314" or more, shouldn't be any sweat though as cast Gc bullets can be pushed along at the same speed as J-word bullets in the .303.
