And its not about load data :)

I recently got a beautiful #1 in 45/70. I had some jaketed 300gr bullets so I put together 5 rounds and they worked great.
I reload 45/70 for a buddies marlin so I went to show him the new rifle and he wanted to try it so he put in a round I made with cast bullets from a RCBS 405gr mold. Well It was a no go way too long I couldnt seat the bullet.
Well I went home and was going to make a few round that did fit. IT was virtually impossible the bullet had to be seated way deep. I know these thing are now short throated but wow.

Anyway any recommendations? Smiths loacal-ish to Williams lake BC, Bullet mold recomendations, Anyone have a hand reamer they would rent out??

Thanks

Older production No.1 45-70's have a longer throat than newer production models. The Hornady 500gr RN bullet can be seated as shown and will chamber in mine which has had the throat lengthened by about 5mm.

The custom Shop in Peterborough has done some with great success, I'm not certain if Eddy is still working. He specialized in old shotguns and producing some of the finest working rifles I have ever used.
