Ruger #1 7x57

One 1A and one #1RSI in 7 x 57, ( the latter being one of my "go to" deer rifles for about 15 years now :) ) .

Both are very handy, short and keep them very close to MOA with a variety of bullet weights and types.

Using handloaded (or Lapua factory ammo) the RSI has been absolutely deadly and reliable.

Buddy had one and bulged the barrel (shot it with mud in it) then had it rebarreled to 303 British.

7 X 57 Ruger No1

I have a No1 AB model no sights, only set up for a scope. It's a light, compact, and a great gun to shoot. I Have had them in the past and will always have one on my rack. If they made one in 7mm08 I would have one as soon as it came off the line.
Buy a No1 in 7 X 57 you won't regret it. You will have to reload if you want it to really shoot. Some of the guns and the ammo are over 110 wears old and manufacturers don't want hot loads because of the age of the firearms and law suits.

I believe I'll be having an RSI in 7X57 shortly, and I'm not telling where from...

What I'd just love, would be a Model 77 RSI in that chambering.

I used a 154g interlock to shoot this guy with mine. I snuck up on two bucks playfully fighting, at about 10 yards they became aware of me and broke off. I shot the bigger one in the back of the neck on his first bounce and layed him out right there.

I buggered up the forend on the quad so I cut it down. I also cut the lenght of pull down to 13". I find that between these two things it realy helped with the balance and feel of the rifle. Cutting down the forend also helped the accuracy greatly. I had full length beded it and that helped but not as much as when I cut it down. It has made some stupidly small groups with the 154 interlaock.

Firstly ... Ruger's "recoil pads" are the pits ... replace with an Pachmayr Old English Decelerator ... even if not for recoil, they just look much better.

As often as not, the trigger pull is somethiong between 5 and 8 lbs ... ugly.
A good 'smith can get it down to about 3 lbs without too much sweat.

The safety, when "off " will generally stop a cartridge from ejecting clear.
Not a big deal (maybe even an advantage on a bench gun), but for a hunting rifle, eject means eject. Same 'smith can reshape & reblue.

They generally shoot best when the foreend is not touching the barrel. Most
No. 1's come a little tight.

Otherwise ... LUV 'EM !

THE #1 RSI is one of my favourite rifles on the planet, and i'll add one this year... I had a #1 (B I think) In 7mm rem mag, and it was a great rifle, but i hated the caliber and sold it in a moment of weakness...
It was one of the best balancing rifles that i've ever picked up, or shouldered.

Ruger No1 RSI

I would like a No1 7X57 in RSI, or one built as an RSI in 7mm08.

Nice Buck Republic of Alberta.

Do you gentlemen find the distance from scope to eye excessive?

I would like to find a beater No1 butt stock to have it cut to fit me, as I am vertically challenged. Some day I will have a custom Ruger RSI built for me.
If anyone has one or knows of a butt stock I would appreciate your help.

The single shot No 1 Ruger is the only modern manufactured firearm that interests me, at least that is, with-in my fiscal threshold.
A friend of mine has one and I find it a particularly interesting firearm, somewhat reminiscent of yesteryear.
Regards, J Stuart.

I cant vouch for the ruger no.1 in 7x57 but I can vouch for the ruger no.1 medium sporter (45-70) and the 7x57!

I sold it too Darryl, but don't regret it. Replaced it with a 375 H&H.:dancingbanana:

I also agree.
Most modern firearms leave me dead, apart from the Ruger #1 and some of the European drillings, but as you said, J, they're outside me fiscal threshold, at least for the moment.
My current love affair is with Martinis but the big frame models don't like rimless cases so I can't chamber one to 7x57.
There is a 7x57Rimmed cartridge but cases are harder to come by and reamers are even scarcer.
As such a No.1a 7x57 is on my wish list.
