Ruger #1 (black butt pad) or Winchester (miroku) 1885....which one?

Not my experience, though I’d assume the Miruko ‘85s would be drills. Had a couple of Brownings that were just so so. Light 1As are finicky, No.1bs and magnum As are accurate. Tropicals and varmints are generally really accurate.

The one 1885 Browning I bought was a fire sale gun from Frenchy/Barotto on 9th ave in Cgy. Had a water damage rust spot halfway down the bbl, still shot 3/4MOA with 55gr Lyman cast, was a 22-250. Pulled that bbl and built a 32-40 on it. My 223 shoots MOA with pretty near anything, the newer Win in 300H&H liked the first factory rd I tried in it, right at MOA, so I have been using those, bought a case since I could get the same lot at the time. The 300 is 10lb 2oz according to the scale at an APRA benchrest match I weighed it at, 4.5-14 Zeiss on it. 223 is likely about the same, may be a hair lighter, like a about 2-3 oz, with an older Nikon 6.5-20 on it.

I've got a number one in 303 and a Uberti Courtney Selous Stalking Rifle in 303 as well.
The Ruger is my favourite of the two. Accurate with anything in the 150 grain range, no matter the brand of ammo.
The Uberti is a bit less comfortable for me, but I haven't had it as long as the Ruger, either.
The Uberti shoots 150's OK, but the edge goes to the Ruger.
Both carry nicely and both weigh about the same.
(the Uberti is a copy of the Browning HiWall)

Don’t take my post above wrong. I’ve had many many No.1s only a couple of Brownings. Both 25/06, shot 1-11/2 “ with some load development. I really like the looks and design of the guns. No doubt I’ll have to give the Mirukos a try. Like the Ubertis as well.

II can only comment on the Ruger as I have one in 45-70 and it’s a beautiful accurate rifle that I will never part with. No doubt they are both great rifles so go with whatever one fits you best.
