I just picked up a nice #1 with a 26" custom barrel in 6.5 x 3006:Dwe checked the barrel out with a scope and it looks great.I intend to use it for moose and long range deer.130 or 140 Nosler Acubond should do the trick,or 130 Barnes ttx.
Anyone out there have one? and what should i expect for velocities?
Good powders to try?
thanks for your info.
Also will be restocking it with a nice piece of walnut from TreeBone Carving.
Cant wait for the snow to melt.:D:D

You can use any and all 6.5X284 data, lots of it out there.

Years back Robert Hart built a 6.5-06 on his 26 inch barrel and it was the most accurate rifle I ever owned. I was shooting 120 grain ballistic tips and the five shot group at 200 yards was under a half inch. BTW, why do you have to wait for the snow to melt....................I shoot all winter long, snow or no snow.

I had one 6.5-06 going on 10 years ago. Bill Leeper built it for me on a Kimber BGR with a PacNor 9 twist barrel.

I used WW 25-06 brass. It was very likely the most accurate sporting rifle I have ever owned.

RL22 was THE powder for those weight bullets. This was pre-TSX days, so I used the 125 NP. 3 shot groups under an inch at 200 yards were the norm.

You know the Nosler manuals list the cartridge right? And their data was right in line velocity wise with my 24" barrel.

You will love that cartridge!

6.5x06

brought the rifle home today with a 4 x 12x40 ao Elite 3200 on it for now.will be getting a 4.5 x 14 x 40 leupold before hunting season.
Bought 2 pounds of reloader 22,1000 Federal 210 match primers and 50 Nosler2506 custom brass.already necked them up and 130 gr.Nosler Acubonds, have started to load.from 50 grs up to 54 grs.will try these then the Barnes ttx in 130 grs.my favorite moose bullet is the Barnes, great xpansion and deep penetration.Useing 6.5 x 55 dies to neck up brass and to seet the bullets TILL I FIND SOME 6.5 x 06 DIES.:D:D
Barrel has a 1 in 8 twist and a longer thoat.130s seated to be 10 thow off lands are 3.390.
Hope to go shooting on monday afternoon, have to see about the weather, lots of snow right now.
