anyone own one of these guns? what kindof groups are you getting?

i really like the full length Mannlicher style stock on these, but i am worried that the full length stock and muzzle cap might detract from its accuracy potential. as much as i like them, if this is the case i will just buy a #1 standard.

Mine would string verticaly a little bit from cold to the 2nd shot. I full lenght beaded the bbl and the forend hanger to wood and did some messing around and it helped with over all accuracy but it still put the first shot from a cold bbl at least and inch higher. The gun was always accurate enough to hunt with however and if you could space out your shooting to keep the bbl the same temp good groups would sometimes happen. Normaly it was mabey a 2 to 3" gun.

I buggered up the wood near the muzzel so I cut it (wood) down to a regular forend. The rifle is sometimes now capible of retarded accuracy and the cold flier has mostly gone away. I had lucked out and made one realy good batch of ammo and fluked into a 3 shot group that was nearly 0.0" I had shot lots of 1/2" to 1/4" 3 shot groups with that batch of ammo as well. It would have never have done it with the full stock.

Got one in 7x57.
Shoots very well.
Typical 100 yard groups look like this, mind you you gotta keep it cool else wise they will string on you. (154gr. Hornady SP's)

All up a might good looking rig, 2-7 VX1 Leupy, 1.5" shorter than they typical Lever action rifle with a 20" bbl.

thanks guys.
its for hunting, not range use - so first shot accuracy is what i really care about.

how good/bad are the factory sights on these?
Put a low power scope on it, or the NECG receiver sight, and no problems.
I owned Lefty's rifle before him, and with the receiver sights, I watched a guy hit a clay bird at 200 mters with it, then a pop can at 25, then a clay bird at 100 - all offhand. This fella's an exceptional shooter , but it does illustrate just how accurate they are.
They can be made VERY accurate!

great. so first shot accuracy can be counted on. i dont really care if the second shot strings an inch or two away, thats acceptable.

my dad suprised me by telling me hes buying me a gun - his condition was that it couldnt be stainless or have any plastic!
im sure the Ruger #1 will fit his criteria :)

im considering the .270. normally id have reached for the .30-06 but the '.270 for moose' threads have made me reconsider the .270. i dont own a .270 yet.

I dont see the point of getting such a classy rifle in such run of the mill, white bread calibers like the 270 or 30-06. Sure they kill very well and I have owned both, but neither comes close to the style and panache of the mighty 7x57. The 7x57 is an outstanding caliber in every way and to buy a No.1 international in anything else when the '57 is an option would be blasphemy! :D

Lefty, I also put a Leupold 2x7 on mine. I cut the lenght of pull down to 13" to get my eye close enough to the scope, it also needed it to balance correctly in my opinion.

I use 154g interlocks in mine and have taken 3 deer with them. I find them to be a bit stiff for lung shots at the velocity and distance I am shooting but penetration is exelent. I would use this bullet with good confidence on elk and chose it as I could come across one in the area that I use this rifle.
