Hello all,
I was asking around to find out how to modify the Ruger #1 action to allow larger rounds to fit in. I didn't want to cut the entire top off of the block as everyone was telling me to do. I know SSK fits in .577s without doing this. Anyway, nobody seemed to know so I played with it lots. I did find a straight forward mod to allow the block to drop farther. It only then required the top of the block to be polished and the countour opened a little for the big cases to fit it. If anyone needs this info, feel free to PM me and I'll tell you all I found.

I altered a grinding stone to be slightly larger than the .338 Lapua case and ground that radius on the top of the block just enough so it cleared on ejection. I have also done it for .378 cases that way too. It did not take much out...
 
I had one in .460 done that way and a .50/140 also. But a lot of metal is coming off. I am not sure you could do it in .577 without hitting the firing pin hole, but the mod to allow the block to drop farther will work.
