hello all, i recently picked up a no1 b in 6mm rem from a fellow member, i was just wondering what most guys are running optics wise? i was thinking about going with a leupold 2.5-8 but was told this might need offset rings, and input or ideas for a scope would be appreciated

I run a Vortex Diamondback HP 2-8x32 on my No1B 300wm. 4.6" eye relief makes it work well on the No1's barrel rib

The VX-3 2.5-8X36 will definitely need an offset ring. I would personally want more magnification on the top end with the 6mm... the VX-3 3.5-10X40mm is just about perfect, you can use regular 4B rings and is very well balance on "B" version rifles.

I have a #1 in 9.3 x 74r that was previously owned by dgradinru and Hoytcanon that I have decided to just leave scope less. It's accurate enough with 55 gr. Of vv140 under 286gr bullet that I know it'll drop a moose within 200 yards with one shot and that's all I ask of it.

Edit: just realized that this post adds nothing to the thread and may come off as bragging, but i'm not working tomorrow, the kids are at the in laws, I'm several whiskeys in, and it is what it is.

My 303 Brit #1 has a 2.5-8x36 with the standard supplied Ruger rings. I love the rifle but don't use it enough, and will probably sell it after this spring bear season closes.

I use express sights on my current Ruger, but keep a 6x Leupold in QD mounts in my pack sack if I find I need to shoot past 300 meters .
this gives me the joy of hunting with my favorite sighting system and at the same time having a repeatable, accurate optical system if I choose to use it .

Don't purchase a scope based on the cartridge the rifle is chambered for, purchase the scope based on the type of country and circumstances you'll use it in. A 2.5-8X Leupold is a fine instrument for general purpose big game hunting under typical conditions, unless you hunt heavy cover where a 1-4X meets your needs better, or should your hunting involve shooting coyotes and antelope at a quarter mile, then a 4-12X might be the answer.

God bless, every thread need a de-rail or ten.

VX-3 2.5-8x36 on a .300H&H.
I recently fitted the offset rings and they an improvement in my opinion. Even with long arms, I was having to crawl the stock with regular rings.

Personally I think you made a wise choice.
That scope will cover a wide spectrum of hunting, good all-round combination..

Best answer yet.
