Hi everyone

I just joined a couple of weeks ago and this is going to be my first post so be gently, I'm sensitive haha jk. Anyways, I'm thinking of buying a Ruger 10/22 rifle with a 16.5 " barrel and in the future I want to mod the hell out of it. The question is if I replace the 16.5" stock barrel with an aftermarket barrel of the same length would that turn the rifle into a restricted or prohibited firearm. I know the law states that you can't have a firearm barrel below 18" unless it was made in the factory that way. Does mean putting an aftermarket barrel below 16.5" is legal cause the factory who made the barrel made it that way and the rifle I bought was already has a 16.5" barrel or is it illegal because its below the 18" barrel length and its not the original stock barrel from the rifle?

Sorry if this question is long and confusing, Canada's gun law is still beyond human logic for me.

Hope you guys can help me out here, thanks

You can't cut an existing barrel to be shorter than 18" or it becomes a prohibited gun. Installing an aftermarket manufactured barrel of shorter length is perfectly legal.

In a nutshell, barrel length doesn't matter for rimfire rifles, only an OAL of less than aprx. 26" (also in the FA) can make it restricted.

To the OP (opening poster), welcome to CGN !

In other words ;) , as long as you don't DIY it :p , and keep the minimum OAL (overall length) within limits :yingyang: , you're okay with that 'lil rimfire....:dancingbanana:
