Good Afternoon All,

Can't believe it took me this long to find a good Canadian forum site. I have been in the process of pimping out my Ruger 10/22 and I'm stuck on what barrel I should put on it. My local range has a 3 gun group that is starting a rimfire version (.22 LR rifle, .22 LR pistol, and then a shot gun). I've been looking for a 10/22 after market barrel but it seems no one in Canada has them in stock and I'm getting conflicting information on bringing one back from the US (Canadian Border says no problem since it is a gun part, US border won't give me a straight answer if I need export paperwork). That being said I would rather spend my money in Canada. What light weight target style barrel do you recommend and where can I get one? My budget would be $200.00 - $350.00. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome.

Lots of thread here on US purchases. Short version is don't do it. The Canadian side doesn't care, but being in possession of it on the US side could find yourself in deep do-do. There are a few companies who will export to Canada, Brownell's being one. Others will do the import for you like Prophet River.

There are a few different barrels available in Canada, but seems no one brings in many at a time. I got a KIDD from Fabsports, and Jo-Brook gets them too.

I'm sure others will be able to help out with other brands. Good luck.

If you want lightweight check with Wanstalls (ad above) as he carries TacSol stuff and if you want steel (heavy depending on length) then check with Dlask as he makes them.

Shorter = less weight but a lot louder. If you want a Bull barrel they cost more and for the most part help with shooting.
So people want more weight for benchrest shooting, some want less for carrying. I have the tactical solutions barrel. 15oz 16" and is simply awesome!!! The Magnum research barrel is 13oz 16" but costs more. Dlask makes great barrels but are solid chunks of metal and could be used as bats. Those who have them know what I'm taking about.
It really depends what you want!
Hope you find something you like!

I've got a tacsol barrel, light, good.

I've got 2 dlask ones, one short, one long.
Prefer them, lot heavier but seem to be more accurate.
Specially on warm days with a lot of shooting.

But u can't beat the tacsol for weight.

For a good after market 10/22 barrel it would be hard to beat Volquartsen. I got mine from MilArms in Edmonton, or you can get them at Brownells , unless you live in or near Edmonton I would try Brownell first. MilArms in a strange place to deal with.

Whistle pig. They do the leg work to get stuff up here. Awesome quality, and rediculous selection. Read some reviews all good.

next build i do im gonna be trying whistle pig.
they've been on my radar for a while now but i have yet to meet anyone that actually has or has tried their stuff.

Amen, I got a 12.5" Dlask for my 10/22, it is beautiful, shoots like a champ, dropped in with zero hassle... and if I ever need to pound in railroad spikes, I could use it as a mallet :)

Hey Guys,

Thanks so much for all the feedback. I was speaking with Craig at Wanstalls (super great guy) and I've narrowed it down to a Tactical Soultions X-Ring or a Volquartsen carbon fiber barrel. I'm using this for 3 gun shooting (local club is doing a .22 LR version) so I want it to be light weight. Looking at all the feedback Volquartsen might be the winner. More research now! :)

I love my tacsol barrel. I also have a custom barrel by bits of pieces out of B.C. it is pretty amazing too. Overspecc'd so it fits really tight.

Hey Folks,

Thanks so much for the feedback and suggestions. I finally ordered one from Wanstalls and went with Tactical Solutions X Ring barrel. Based on my discussion with Craig at Wanstalls as well as a bunch of research on the net it was a 50/50 between the volquartsen carbon fibre and the one I went with. I'll give you the feedback after I put 1000 rounds through it.
