Here is my 10/22 carbine with a compact barrel. Just got the gun and the barrel in the mail last week. I believe its an older model because the mag release is only a button and the trigger and barrel band seem to be aluminum. Serial dates to around 2006 so the plastic changes must have happened shortly afterwards. The reason for my post is this. The barrel band as seen in the last couple of pics doesnt touch the compact barrel when tightened down. I've read in other post that people simply remove the barrel band to free float the barrel. Am I good like this or do I need to completely remove all wood making contact with the barrel to have it truly free floating. As it is, the barrel simply sits in the stock with no heavy contact. The band tightens to the stock but isnt touching the barrel at all. Gonna pick up some glass for my weaver rail soon. Got 5 factory mags. Probly wont do anything else to her. My first 10/22 and i'm in love. cheers
