I'm looking for a gun smith or tuner who does good work on Ruger 10/22

Looking for

1. 1 Kg or as close as possible trigger pull
2. No creep
3. No over travel
4. Bed it rock solid

Would prefer existing stock Ruger parts but replacement parts acceptable.

Edmonton area or one that will take delivery by mail.

You can fulfill your first three requirements simply by swapping out the trigger assembly with a good aftermarket unit. The Volquartsen TG2000, for example, would do exactly what you want. Changing the trigger assembly is extremely simple - just remove action from stock and push out two pins. (Actually finding a replacement unit takes a little longer due to the U.S. export rules, but they are around at various dealers or you could fill out the paperwork and get one from Brownells.)

You don't necessarily need a gunsmith for bedding. In fact, it would likely be a lot cheaper if any other knowledgeable person did it. One option is to send the gun to Mystic Precision (a site sponsor.)

I had a previous 10/22 with a Volquartsen HP kits in it a few years ago. It was pretty good for the price $180 something CDN at the time. I had to have it professionally installed, I can shoot after a fashion but little parts, my fat fingers, and a lack of patience do not a gun smith make. So I'd like to find someone to do the work for me.

As a side note with the Volquarsen kit with a standard barrel, 4 thickness of cardstock shim under the forearm I could shoot 3" groups at 100 M (as long as I did my part and didn't overheat the barrel) all afternoon.

Did you have a kit or the complete drop-in trigger assembly? The latter has no small parts to fuss with - just the two pins (which aren't particularly small and which fall out by themselves half the time when the action is removed.) You take out the factory unit and stick in the aftermarket unit.

If you use the drop-in assembly no gunsmithing is required. If you don't feel comfortable doing it (but believe me, it's simplicity itself) you could probably find a friend to help.

The most critical accuracy component of a 10/22 is the barrel. My wife has a heavy Green Mountain barrel on hers and she routinely shoots 10-shot 1.5" groups at 100 yds. (Applying the 3-shot or 5-shot group standard they would be much smaller.) If you're looking for long range accuracy you might consider replacing the barrel as the first step. Just a thought.

The first think that you need to do, is decide what you are willing to spend. If you are going to pay a gunsmith to do the work, it may cost more than you are expecting.

I've never worked on a gun, I have giant, fat hands and I just stripped and reassembled my 10/22 in a few short minutes. Unless that gun smith is custom machining or tweaking parts, a 10/22 is a DIY'ers dream.

The bedding part you might want to spend some money on if you're not the patient, mechanical type.

If you need a gunsmith, I know a guy in Stony Plain that does good work. Google Wild Bills Gunsmithing or check them out on Facebook.

Look into Brimstone Gunsmithing. He's in the US, but his contact page has a phone number, so you can talk to him directly about getting your trigger group across the border*. He has a terrific reputation on Rimfire Central, using mostly your stock parts, to get the trigger you want at a reasonable price.

* No guarantees. I haven't dealt with him personally, but he's on my list.

I had an HP kit that came with target hammer, shims, sear, disconnector, target trigger with over travel adjustment and a few other goodies. It all worked very well, dropped the trigger pull to 1 Kg. and it was as smooth as glass, no take up slack and broke even.

I suppose I could have gotten a bit better groups with a barrel replacement but just doing the trigger I went from 15cm to 6cm without changing a thing else except for putting business card shims under the barrel. At 100m that's about as good as I can shoot with about any 22 LR.
