Ruger 10/22 Headaches

If I am not mistaken (which I just might as well be) the new Ruger's have a plastic trigger on it. I don't think upgrading to a new metal one wouldn't be so much of a waste of money.

A couple bucks, several cans of elbow grease and some time should get things good. I will probably try it after I break in the action.

Cannot wait any longer for my Ruger to come in, Festivus is coming early for me, so is the Festivus credit card bill.

Don't forget to put in the Volquartsen automatic bolt release, extended mag release and exact edge extractor :)

Those were by far the best three changes I made to mine.
 
The bolt release you can do yourself in a couple minutes, I am going to save the money on that. I will wait and see if I have problems with my extractor before I buy one though.
 
Just ordered another 10/22 myself, just gonna add a scope, maybe some mags, maybe a trigger job, extractor, bolt release, barrel, stock, laser, bipod, sling, rails...ahh crap, should of got the 597

If you look at how easy it is to do the bolt release you wouldn't want to buy it either. It is on RimfireCentral. Also shows how to do the hammer modding to get a lighter trigger pull but that seems a wee bit iffier.

I am thinking about a bi-pod though, would be awesome for plinking.

Nothing but an endless headache for the 10/22, just so much to do and hard to stop yourself. Especially when things only cost 10 bucks or so but it really adds up quick.
 
I bought a bolt release and modded the original,turns out I cut too deep and the bolt would release with a good smack to the end of the stock. Glad I bought one. I will try again for the 2nd 10/22
 
I just got my Ruger in the mail today, so far it looks okay however it feels weird compared to the old Cooey I have been using. The stock is a lot fatter however at least the 10/22T's butt is longer cause I like big butts.

Now to clean it as from what I have read and then attempt that bolt release mod later. Oh yeah I checked, the trigger will fire when hanging my finger from the gun. The trigger pull is like the exact same weight as the rifle. Which I am guess is around 7.5 lbs.
 
Meh spent a couple hours trying the bolt release mod and could not get it to work properly. No matter how rounded I got it the thing wouldn't release reliably. Those pins are also a huge pain in the butt, don't know about the metal trigger housing but they slid right out of the plastic one. Also the plastic trigger housing wobbles side to side when in the stock. Cleaned everything and the barrel too, cannot wait till I get the chance to break it in.

EDIT: Hmm the bolt release seems to work fine with the magazine installed, without it she won't release without some fiddling. Is this normal?

I decided to load the magazine last night to see what she requires in the skills department. Man those mags are a pain in the butt, I couldn't even unload the thing either, hope I don't have those problems shooting it.

Also noticed that they only polish the visible side of the bolt and not the rest.
 
Using the stock Ruger 10 round mag, could not unload it by hand without using something to push the pullets out other than my finger. I was inside and did not want to accidentally shoot one off. Might go tonight and fire my gun for the first time hopefully the mag isn't an issue.
 
you should be able to just use your thumb nail. what i do is place my thum nail on the rear of the cartridge, and simply push it forward and up a bit. it should pop out. i have metal lips on my factory cartridge though, i'm not sure if they changed this along with the trigger group?
 
My 10/22T seems to dislike the factory 10rnds for some reason, often stovepipes or otherwise jams, but will flawlessly feed Butler Creek Hotlips 25rnders. Go figure, makes no sense to me. I tried messing around with it so it would feed the factory mags but gave up and use the 25rnds now.
 
Well I finally shot the thing and now I have more headaches.

As Leveractionjunkie mentioned I too have weird jamming issues with the factory magazine. It was like the shell was ejected with poor force and would stay in the receiver and not let the other bullet cycle in. Or it would just fail to grab the bullet.

Now my main headache is that the barrel is shooting way the hell to low and to the right. I cannot adjust my scope anymore, I really hope this isn't that dreaded barrel drop issue. Could it be that I didn't properly seat the barrel back in? The Vblock is tight as a mofo and even tried loosen one side a bit and still did nothing.

Hopefully I can fix this all for my next plinking session before the big small game season. Virtual kisses for help :)
 
I bought the Ruger 10/22T. Just halfed ass shooting resting the gun on something it will shoot 2inch groups at 50 yards. I just cannot get it to sight in properly. I am thinking either it is barrel droop but the barrel is not free floating (still using all stock parts). Could be the receiver hump which I will check tomorrow or it could be that the mount doesn't like ye olde dove tail so my scope mounts are all out of whack.

With both windage and elevation maxed out it would should low and to the right at 25 yards, should slightly low and to the right at 50, didn't go farther.

Pretty much the main headache I am having with the Ruger now is that issue.
 
Yeah hopefully I can get my deadly accurate too, will take it apart, clean it and check some stuff tomorrow. I hope I can resolve this issue without it costing me a lot of or any money.

Also mine shot two stingers just fine, no cycling problems at all. (Friend gave me two to try). Big thing I am not longer doing is buying plain lead bullets, too messy for the gun and for me loading, copper washed from now on.
