Ruger 10/22 issues

So did your brother put his parts back in and continue shooting or is it still inoperable, if he hasn't fixed it i would return it to the dealer to deal with. For your issues i would try some different ammo if you still have extraction problems then look at the extractor. Does it have a burr or a poorly shaped hook, if so fix or replace. With a rimfire you should always try multiple brands of ammo to make a real opinion of a firearm.

Sell it to Deadmeat. I bought a brand new one and had piles of jamming issues. Sold it to Deadmeat and it works fine. Oh well...I like my 597 a lot better. And I do plan to have another 10-22 one day...with absolutely no Ruger parts.

So my brother and I got some 10/22's the other day from a small local gunshop.

He put about 50 rounds through it and the extractor and plunger fell out while shooting...

anyone else experience this?

I understand the custom parts are way better, but I can't understand how unreliable it was out of the box. If I wanted #### like that to happen I would have gotten the 597

Bottom line is that shouldn't have happened straight out of the box.
Why don't you just take it back and get a 597???

not sure what the rules are like in Ontario, but out here they don't allow people to return used firearms.....

Really????
So..did you buy these rifles new "out of box" or "used"??

bought new "NEW", but apparently when you shoot a gun it becomes used....

Hmmmm?? NEW and you got no warranty with them??

I'm sure there is warranty, he took his back.... :)

Me smells a troll

:feedTroll:

If its having issues take it back. Just about every shooter I know owns one or more 10/22's and they all work fine with 95% of ammo in existence once broken in with a brick or two.

u could also try re-cutting the extractors if you are comfortable with that a jewelers rouge and file polish the parts off take very little off just make them super slick then use the file to cut the extractor more aggressively dont polish the contact faces of the extractors rough is good will snag bullets better i have a 10 22 and mine is relatively new only about 1000 rounds through it but no such problems and definitely new ammunition you dont have to go high end but anything heavier will shoot more accurately for shure and i havent had anny issues i shoot blazer in most of my 22s

most rimfires shouldnt be dry fired at all or as litle as possible unleas u put dummies in them the pin will deform or wear and give u issues in the future

Can dryfire a 10/22 all day long everyday nothing will happen. Says so right in the ruger manual you get with the gun. The firing pin doenst contact anything when dry fired.

For what the Volquartsen extractors cost, I don't see the point in spending time fiddling with the Ruger part.
