Ruger 10/22 last shot bolt open problem

First time owning a 10/22 and the bolt doesn't lock open after last shot. I looked at the various mags and there doesn't seem to be any mechanism to do this. So my question is do I have a problem or is this normal for th 10/22?

Normal, there is a mod for this however. New bolt and new mags. Not worth it IMHO though.

Funny how the most popular 22 doesn't have such a simple yet useful option. Ruger should have changed it years ago.

Thanks guys. Yeah I agree about extractors, both my Rugers have Volquartsen extractors, the stock ones are seriously crap!

I agree, this is a must-have upgrade.

Its the rotary mag, difficult to do a hold open feature. Not impossible but not worth it. You can dry fire the 10/22 without problems, says so right in the manual.

I just ordered a volq. extractor and auto bolt release from rimfire sports... just waiting on delivery now

It is too late as I have already placed the order, it was not expensive. However I will have another 10/22 soon.. how do you remove the section? with a file?

yes a file would work. a die grinder (dremel for the home hobbiest) is the tool of choice though

Yep.

The firing pin retainer is set up to prevent the pin from extending past the bolt face when the hammer strikes it.
