Ruger 10/22 Mags

The only ones I ever seem to be able to find are the Butler Creek mags. The plastic lipped Hot Lips and the Steel Lips. The Steel Lips are quite a bit more expensive than the Hot Lips and I never seem to be able to find any in stock, so I have only used the Hot Lips. But that being said, I have had good luck with the plastic lipped mags. I seem to be able to get a couple of good years of regular shooting out of them without any real problems.

I had horrible luck with my Eagle 30 rounder. It is unusable... I have repeatedly tried to contact them for replacement with zero response. However I have heard others say they have a new version which corrects the issues I have with mine so maybe they are ok now. Just make sure you get the 2nd generation version.

I been running Eagle 30's for over a year now, mags are cracked, feed lips are chewed up, but I still have no problems with them. I went to the range w/ my buddy who also had a Krinker just like mine, His jammed way more with his BC steel lip mags. I had 1 jam out of 150rds to his 5-8 for one mag.

Something's wrong with his gun if he's jamming 5-8/30 and I doubt it's the mag... I use them in my Krinker and I had some jamming issues until I replaced my extractor with the VQ edge extractor and now it cycles perfectly.

Same Ammo, Same Mods, VQ Edge Extractors, Same Trigger. Its sad when El cheap o mags are working better then his.

It's strange that the BC Steel lips are causing so many problems for your friend.
I put about 300 rounds through my 10/22 last night out of a steel lips mag without a stoppage. Maybe your friend has a defective mag?

I like eagle 30 rounders because they are cheap and work pretty reliably. I like the steel lips mags too but I am poor.

The factory 10 rd mags are the only ones that never seem to jam.

Aside from those mags, jams are just something you have to deal with from time to time.

IMHO, it has as much to do with the fouling from firing and the irregularities in ammunition as much as it does with the quality of mags.

So I say buy whatever is available in your price range... and stayaway from the teardrop 50 rd drums. ugh....

I use the steel lips and most of my troubles were with AE hollows and Winchester power points. I mostly use CCI mini-mags and have very few issues, even less with stingers and velocitors. The mags need a break in period just like the gun. When I get a new mag I load it up for a day or two before I plan to go shooting and this seems to reduce the jams a mis-feeds caused by the mags. I guess it stretches the spring a bit, whatever the case I tried some out doing this and some without doing this and I found the ones I had loaded a day or two previously seem to work much better.Just my .02

Ditto I have 2 50rd drums, that I got with the gun and the springs wore out on them quick.... If not that the cover broke or the winder.

I've only had my 10/22 for a little over a week now, but I've already had one jam out of my factory 10 rnd mag. :(

Tactical Innovations

IMHO the Tactical Innovations 25 round mags are the best for a number of reasons. (I believe these may be the ones referred to earlier available from Wolverine Supplies. I ordered mine directly from the company.)

I had nothing but trouble with my Krinker previous to getting these. The BC mags, even the steel lips, were not consistent. Since I got the Tactical Innovations mags it has been great. I go through mag after mag without a glitch. They can be dismantled to clean. They can be adjusted horizontally and vertically to get the perfect angle to feed, assuming you are having those issues. They just work. I bought an extra one for my son and he has had nothing but good things to say using them out of his 10/22.

I would also have to say that some brands of cheaper .22's can cause issues for any mags. Determine the best mag and bullet combination for your gun.

What abut barrels? The Krinker barrel is a Match chamber so it could be having troubles if you're feeding it non-match grade ammo... If his is a match chamber and yours is bentz maybe that would explain the difference?

By far the worst mags are the Ram-Line mags, but first appearance should be enough to steer you away from even considering that mistake. I have 2 steel lips mags. One works flawlessly, and feeds as fast as I can pull the trigger. The other seems to have a spring issue, as the cartridges sometimes lie loose just below the lips and don't feed. I've tried working the spring in by loading different amounts of ammo in the mag, but it still continues doing this :(. I have never had problems with the factory 10-round mags unless the gun was very dirty. Only the stock and trigger group on my gun has been modified (VQ TG2000, Hogue Overmolded Stock), so this is performance with the factory extractor/bolt/firing pin/etc.

What's the price difference between BC and TI mags? I currently have one hot lips BC mag and it's been giving me feeding problems every once in a while...and I am obviously going to have to get more. One high cap mag is just not enough.

BC steel lips run around 32.99; Hot Lips $22.99. I got my Tactical Innovations mags by ordering from their website and they were 3 for $99.00. They paid the shipping.

Wolverine lists them for $41.95 plus shipping. I notice their also website says
"availability is subject to department approval". I am not sure what department that is but TI is very Canada friendly and ships without hassles. My only issue was waiting for the Border People to send them to me after they arrived in Canada. It took 3 weeks. With our dollar on par that seems like a good deal considering the quality of the mags as long as you don't mind the border wait.

Out of mags

I was just at the TI website and they say they are temporarily sold out of their T1 mags. Apparently they can't keep up with demand. They have some aluminum T1 mags left but they are much more expensive- $65.00. If Wolverine got any you might want to grab them. BTW there is a link to TI at Wolverine's website if you click on Ruger Hi cap mags.
