Ruger 10 22 necessary upgrades

I could throw $7 in the toilet with my next s**t and get the same result. But if it makes you feel better about your gun...all the power to ya

It's $7.00. It's not like it's a $100.00 tacticool flashlight, attached to a $100.00 tacticool rail, attached to the front of a $200.00 tacticool stock, just to look 'cool.'

Is there a mod that would leave the bolt open after last round? I don't feel like counting the rounds (with Butler Creek mags it is not that easy to keep track) and the final trigger pull resulting in silent "click" on the hollow chamber makes me cringe. After all these years of manufacturing 10/22s Ruger hasn't redesigned the model to actually hold the bolt open after the last empty shell is ejected. That's the one thing that drives me bonkers with this rifle.

So I sould buy it just cuz its cheap? You must have a pretty good account at the dollar store...

It's not so easy.

The mags would also have to change to include a tab to lift the bolt catch/release.

Then you run into compatibility issues between models with and without.

More trouble than it is worth.

The gun has been so popular so long, why change now?

Bits of pieces sells them.

SuperNova I have a bottle of hoppes #9 and some of the wifes midol, The combo might make you fell better.

My buddy modified the bolt hold-open on my wood stocked stainless. That's the only thing that isn't stock on it. I've fired several thousand rounds of all sorts of ammo.

You could change the stock, barrel, bolt, all screws, sights, butt plate, trigger group and add three flashlights, a bipod and tripod, 90 power laser scope.:p

Enjoy your 10/22. :)

A quick note on the tuffer buffer, if you are using the subsonic loads it does reduce the cycling noise remarkably, but it really shines if you are using a can, but alas only had the opportunity to try south of the border.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I only wanted to know any mods to decrease wear and tear on the gun, not to augment this already fine rifle. The barrel stays, trigger group stays, action stays and everything else stays where it is now. I thought perhaps it is a good idea to put a shim here, a buffer there, a washer someplace else. For now I only know that a bolt stop buffer in place of the steel pin is not a bad idea so I ordered the Tuffer Buffers. The cost is minimal and it certainly won't hurt the gun.
