So I bought a new Ruger 10/22 back in December and when I put on the scope mount, I saw that unfortunately it blocked the view of the iron sights. I was upset by this because I would have to take off the scope mount in order to use them which means pulling out the screwdriver and hoping I don't lose the screws.

I've seen on an older 10/22 where the scope mount had a low enough profile that there was no blocking of the iron sights at all. How old of a 10/22 do I have to get for it to have a low profile scope mount and non plastic parts?

Why put on the scope mount at all if you plan to use the iron sights?

Just keep the mount and screws in the factory box if your worried about losing them and have no other storage places

Well I figure it's nice to be able to just take the scope off and shoot it with irons. You know, without having to pull out a screw driver and get a little baggie for the screws and all that.

look into a tac sol piccanty (sp?) rail for 10/22s. it might have a low enough base to see the iron sights with the scope removed... good luck! let us know what you find.
