Out of the box a rem 597 CAN be more accurate than the 1022 but not always. My 597 is a good shooter now but when new the problems were:
Burr on the crown
Rust in the bore
Dent on the breach from being dry fired as a display model
Iron sights not installed straight
No bluing under front sight base
Guide rods over tightened
Rough trigger pull
Plastic flashing in the barrel channel
I have since reamed,peened,sanded,polished,torqued,scoped, all the defects out and am quite pleased.....she doesn't like truncated ammo or 'Dyna point' ammo though...I'm ok with that however.
