Ruger 10/22 or SR22 rifle ? jam o matic?

Currently in the market for my first .22 I love the ar15 look of the sr22 but still like the 10/22 ( i wanna do one up with an archangel stock) could i get some feedback cause I don't know which one to buy......my main worry is JAMS! I dont mind buying quality ammo (cci mini mag) what are your guys experience with these rifles? like I say I don't wanna even see 1 jam with top quality ammo what the better option to buy?

Wouldn't really matter if you bought a regular 10/22 or SR22. The SR is built off of the 10/22 action, so it will have the same capabilities. I have several 10/22's and they are very dependable for semi-autos. Neither jam very much at all. Once in a while might stovepipe when using extremely cheap ammo. Won't find much better for the money in the rimfire semi-auto world :)
 
I had a 1022 in a Nordic kit, worked 100% with 10 rnd mags and about 95 % with after market mags. BC steel lip and plastic lip,T.I mags,Charger ,And a couple of more that I can't remember the name. All kinds of ammo too. Rem golden bullet were the most reliable for me. It did get better as it got broken in. I've since sold it but I'm soon gonna buy another semi 22 and will build another Nordic with a tacsol aluminum barrel.
 
Out of the box they will run pretty good, it's when you start changing parts and barrels things get ugly sometimes.
The OEM rotary mags have run 100% for me since the get go even after swapping in a heavy GM barrel. Butler creek run OK, but definitely not 100%.
 
Definitely if you like the AR look then go with the SR22. Al Flahertys has them on sale now actually. I just wrote a review on them today actually. I love mine. I just ordered an extractor and a bunch of Volquarsten internals from Sylvester sports. Pretty cheap too. Check out Larry from Iron eagle tactical too for some great mods and ideas. He's a great guy and very eager to help.
 
I've had only maybe 5 failures to eject in probably 4000 rounds with my SR22 using butler creek mags. And that's with whatever random ammo I have.

Had 2 failures to eject from a 110 round mag dump with a drum mag.
 
In my experience its been the magazines that cause the jams. If you are buying a new gun they will have a break in period where they are a little sticky and will jam from time to time and the rounds don't always feed properly, but with a good quality magazine they will clear up pretty quickly and feed beautifully. When I switched from a stock ruger mag to a butler creek my buddy was using I ran into non stop issues. His butler creek mags are well broken in with his ruger and jammed with both my gun and his. When I switched back to the stock rugers I had no issues and I have since put an Archangel 556 kit on it and paired that with 2x 25 round Archangel Promag magazines. The Promags gave some issues for the first few times as they needed to break in with my gun but since have cleared up and fire great. If you get a new ruger I suggest you buy 2 new magazines let them break in with that gun and stick with them. The Promags are now a 4th gen and are really excellent, the butler creek i have found to be cheap and kind of ####ty but some guys swear by them and I think if you buy it and let it break in with the gun no matter what you get it will work pretty well. Hical has a shop in BC I contacted them by phone and they are the only place I'll do business with. My local gun stores are piss poor in my experience and Hical's shop is one of the best I've ever dealt with.

Just back from a great day at the range with my 8 year old. We were shooting our 10/22 with Archangel stock we bought from Hical. Our 25 round Butler Creek magazine is now running like a top...agree with the above, it was a frustrating piece of kit until it was worked-in.

Today we were zeroing our Aimpoint PRO and setting up an absolute co-witness with Magpul BUIS. I couldn't believe it when I handed it over to my son who proceeded to hit the 9 ring on his first shot and the 10 ring on his second shot...guess we got the zero nailed! I have to say the number of "clicks" we had to use to bring the point of aim up was a bit concerning but understandable.

An absolutely fantastic day at the range. My son was also shooting his Savage Rascal, can't recommend them enough for starting your kids shooting. They have sling mounts so you can use a bipod, which really makes a big difference.
 
Absolutely love my sr22. The mags are what seem to cause the jams. My butler creek is working perfectly after about 100 rounds to break in. I just got another brand and tried it out on Monday and it was stove piping every 3 to rounds. I think it was partially due to my lack of attention during loading caused by the black flies eating me.
