Ruger 10/22 problems - Archangel Nomad

Hey guys,

I know i've seen threads in here before similar to this, and I apologize if this has been beaten to death already, but I am having some issues with my Ruger 10/22 and would like your "expert" advice.

First off, this rifle started out as the standard sporter model. Shot it once with the factory 10rnd mag and it worked well. Went ahead and ordered a Archangel Nomad kit to tacticool it up a little. I didn't have much issue installing the kit, and it looked as if it all fits together nice and tight. Second range trip using the 25rnd mag that came with the kit and I promptly discovered that the firearm was pretty much unusable. Failures to feed, stovepipes and even rounds nosing down into the mag. I did some reading on this and found it to be a common-ish ailment. So i bought some of the new gen mags to try again. Same results. Did a little fitting/cleaning/filing on the mags as per forums discussions...no dice. Last time i brought the little bugger out I was getting all the same issues, plus some vicious hangfires. Tried 3 different types of ammo to see if that was the issue, but it was still happening. Now that I have spent more than 1.5x the cost of the rifle in mags and kit, im getting really discouraged.

Anyone else having similar issues with the Nomad kit? Any fixes? I'm really considering just putting it back in its original stock and cutting my loses. :(
 
The mag is the real weak point of this conversion. The Nomad can still work with butler creek mags, that's how I run mine.
 
Man I feel your pain. I went through all the same issues you did. I was discouraged and almost gave up too. In the end I discovered that if you tweek the little wire spring a bit and keep hosing out the mag every 100-150 rds with a solvent holding the mag inverted, that I attained 99% reliability. Don't give up. It also does take about a brick of ammo to break the things in. Don't file anything on them.

Sometimes these magazines need a break in period. It also helps to load them up while in storage and leave them to sit to put some stress on the magazine spring. Have you tried the Nomad kit with the factory 10 round magazine?
 
I've got the same kit, and yeah, it takes some tinkering. I never tried the factory 10 round mag, heard it doesn't fit? Dammit, I gave it away when I got the kit, didn't even try it.
 
They work fine with the factory 10rd mag. Just a little tricky with the G36ish magwell as the mag needs to be shoved up there.

Hi, I have the same issue. I've just receive my new Archangel HKg36 kit mount on ruger 10-22 from Irunguns.ca and I have always failure to load. I've try a Buttler Creek magazine and over 5 rounds inside magazine, the rifle jam with bad loading. I have purchase a new AA922 magazine and I'll see in few weeks..... I'm also discouraged about my rifle. Irunguns offer me to send it back the rifle and magazines for evaluation and repair but it's costly and it will be my last option.
 
Yeah, the mag need to be break-in or you will have the feeding issues. I have 2 of these mags, when is brand new it barely feed, jam every other shot or so.
You need to load the round into the mag as much as you can and leave it for a couple day, or load it unload it, keep doing that for few times and you will notice it's getting easy to load the round later on. I also took out the spring and wipe off the polymer follower then lubed with gun oil, just a tad. I also smoothed out rough edges around the lip. Now I can load both mags up to 22 rounds without any issues, I will try to load to 25 rds when the spring lose up a little bit more.
