Ruger 10/22 s flying off the shelf

Hey K-Roc~don't want to disturb this apple cart of Ruger 10/22 love...but you skimmed right over HTH's suggestion of the Marlin 60 and Marlin 795. It's a good suggestion.

I don't own semi-auto 22lr rifles anymore. They're mostly picky cycling certain ammo. Bolt rifles (and SA revolvers) suit me fine. However, if I were looking for a sub $200 semi I would agree with .22LRGUY and take a look at Marlin 60 or 795 (IIRC the 60 are tube mags which I also prefer).
There are many owners stating both Marlins run great right out of the box. The only upgrade I would make are a set of Tech Sights...unfortunately I haven't found a set of these sights so no 60 for me:)...yet.

Thanks for the heads up! Now to check my credit card...
BTW...OP I owned a VLEH a few years ago. IIRC they came with a target trigger and a few other nice parts. If you can get one for the price mentioned above...go for it! It's a little on the heavy side but a nice shooter out of the box....

^ Everyone I know who has the Marlin is very happy with it. I have several family members with Remington 597's as well and no one has any complaints. There is a newer Ruger copy out there as well, Rock Island Armoury I think, makes them. Supposedly all steel, heavier birch stock and roughly the same price as the Ruger. Was it Epps who was stocking them? I can't remember.
Frontier Firearms had them.

The 10/22s are great guns but when I could not find one I got the Marlin 795 on the advice of a friend (as others have suggested in this thread). The stock 10 round mags are great and Pro mag makes a nice 25 round magazine for them (I have 2).The gun cycles anything I put through it, never had a FTF or FTE with about 600 rounds fired so far using bulk CCI, Winchester and Federal ammo. I added a cheap bushnell scope on it and the thing is a tack driver, always fun and always reliable. I think I paid $179 for mine at Cabelas.

I considered the Marlin 795, if it wasn't for the high capacity magazines i'd probably would have went for that. If like don't like this 10/22 takedown , i will probably get the 795, or a Savage Mark II.

My remington 597 Vtr shoots like a charm plus looks bada$$ I would recommend it for the looks unless you really want aftermaket high cap mags then dont go with the 597

And for the 10/22 don't go crazy and buy one at ridiculous price on the EE paid mine 299 a month
ago just be patient

But im wondering if you have an AR-7 and your looking for your 3 rifle why go for a 2nd .22LR ?

I would personnaly go for a .223 for now then wait for a 10/22

Hical.ca has 30 and 70 round mags for the marlin.... Last I heard they cycled very well!

You're right PA, no need to go for another 22 right now. I'm just getting started, actually i am waiting for my license to come in, so i have an sxp and that AR7 on hold for now. Then I'm ordering an sks. I would wait until the spring, but with my luck the sks for 75 will dry up. I would like a 223 but I'll be saving up to buy something non restricted, not to mention ill have plenty to play with anyhow.

Target guy, I might have gone with the marlin had i known about the hicap. Having said that, I have been really fickle about deciding which 22lr to buy (Marlin, 10/22, Savage), and i finally gave into the availability of 10/22 aftermarket parts even though this gun will likely stay stock.

Yes they do (did), i bought one from them today, it sounded like they may have had a couple but i didnt ask. I did talk to someone at P&D Ent. And the had a couple standard 10/22's there. Thanks Pat!

You're welcome. I'm just glad to be able to help some one else for a change. I recently posted two WTB adds and both times fellow Nutters have insisted on shipping me items free of charge. Has helped restore my faith in humanity. Cheers P

I guess you are right... I like the AR 7... its pretty cool, so maybe I dont need a second .22lr.... just looking around now and trying to decide what to get next. Probably end up with the Ruger 10 22 with the option to mod it later or maybe the Remington 597 Vtr. 3 firearms will be enough right? Is this going to be a problem with my always looking for a new one lol????

I must admit I m really attracted to the historical element of each firearm. Each one is a microcosm of history and has its own story to tell... then once you learn that story you are holding a piece of history in you hands and perhaps so much more; a means of procuring food, self defense (I suppose that element is a little hazy in Canada), and an item of great mechanical ingenuity... anyway hopefully this hobby wont break my bank account haha.

I had planned on 3 rifles myself.
I had 3 sitting in my mates gunroom before my PAL even arrived,I am considering my 6th rifle atm lol,its an addiction.

I feel in somewhat the same boat as K-Roc described for his first purchase.

I just visited my local firearms/outdoors store, just to check it out, for the first time. Way more selection than I thought and a wide range of 'stuff' - not just guns.

Anyway, in the non-restricted goodies case they had, among other cool stuff, a Ruger 10/22 takedown. They were as stoked to have one as I was surprised to see one. They said that it kinda showed up in the stock room outta nowhere, and that they had 2 a couple weeks ago that just flew off shelves.
The guy talked about their popularity and how they can't keep'em, or get'em now, after this one goes. He said that Ruger is "a million and a half guns behind"... etc etc.
I was thinking he was getting he "sell" on, though I know their super popular, and from further research and me calling a couple stores around Canada/online - they're backorder eveerywhere.
I had to leave before I did something .. "stupid"?.. or smart. Haha.
Think I should buy it? It'd be my first purchase.

I want to plink, target, range (when I get club membership), eventually hunt a lil, camping, survival-gun etc.
What ya think? Will these be around in the next 6months? Not "discontinued" or anything right?

Thanks.

PS: OP - what did you end up getting?
