I'd try this....should be easy on the takedown! I was interested in the takedown but it seems to have more then it's share of issues!
 
Weird. I have a fun rule with my 10/22 and Mini14: never clean them until I have a failure.

I bought both 2 years ago and have not cleaned either yet. (Actually, I did run a boresnake through the Mini14 once last year, I think.) I've fed my 10/22 XPert, DynaPoint, a handful of various Rem ammo, Federal AE, and quite a few CCI Mini-Mags, and never had any failures at all. Used both factory mags and BC 25 rounders...

Accuracy varies with ammo (and may have to do with never cleaning the gun ever).
 
I feed my 10-22's everything! ( sr 22 , archangel 556) I get free ammo often buddy's say it just doesn't work . I find ( just my expierences) that if I bump my mag ( 25 round butler ) it has issues but only on the sr it has a "loose fit " the arc a is much tighter and hasn't been effected( and when I use stock rotary on either absolutely no issues on ANY ammo) , sometimes failures if the mag is super dirty but so far only on the butler 25's..
 
My 10/22 (currently in a Proag G-36 Nomad kit) particularly likes Win Dynapoint bulk. Couple of cases down the pipe so far, have yet to have a single FTF, FTE, etc., and plenty accurate enough for me.

IMHO, ALL semi-auto .22's are ammo sensitive. Find a cheap ammo it likes and stick with it...and don't clean it (other than a basic wipe down) until it starts to malfunction.
 
The tension adjustment is good to bring up, that could be the issue that some are having. I did mine up so that it is nice and tight, perhaps a bit more so than the manual says.
 
My 10/22 eats everything and anything I feed her, and that includes some reviled cheap stuff. The only ammo I haven't tried is sub sonic, which someone here suggested may affect cycling. Any of the rare feed issues I experienced were always related to the magazine. One had a weak spring, one was improperly seated. That said, the more I read about the 10/22, the more I hear that quality is a crapshoot. I don't want to believe it, but that many horror stories can't be ignored.

Think scale. There have to be more 10/22s out there than all the rest combined. Theres gonna be more problems. And most problems are user related. The main points all have been covered, but short version:
-clean
-break in
-ammo sensitivity
-aftermarket magazine sensetivity.
-take down tension.
that said, yes the TD has more than its share of issues. Mine has a soft barrel, but otherwise cycles as expected.

Somebody please explain to me how one "limp wrists" a .22? Jeezus.

Anyways it's been like a month. The gun doesnt stove pipe as often, maybe half as much as it used to, but it is doing light primer strikes now. Gun is clean. Using winchester ammo. Stock magazine. Im still totally pissed! Im gonna toss this stupid thing in the river.

None of my 22lr Rugers will digest Winchester reliably. Try something else?
Some do, some don't, I just stick to FC and CCI, as they have given the most consistent results. How much have you put through it in the month of break in?

I must be @ 2000 + rounds of Stingers in my SR-22, i dont recall one malfuntion, my TD will have a steady Stingers diet, i dont expect no problems... JP.

With my 10/22 takedown, it really likes Blazers and I shot at least 700 rounds and only had FTE during its first 100-200 rounds or so. I also developed a habit of cleaning the gun after using it with a bit of clp and a cloth. Hope this helps.
 
My 10/22 works with everything I feed it,....well it does have a 10 round mag & is a .22!:p

I will purchase one of those Ruger TD models though, they have to be lots of fun....
 
My 10/22TD works great even with only 300 rds down the tube. All my 10/22's seem to get smoother and better the more you shoot. ( 500-1000 is good break in medicine)
 
250 Stingers today out of my brand new 10-22 TD and only one malfunction, i have to add all those were shot from 2 brand new Butler steel lips 25 rounders, that ammo is just great and was accurate out of the TD... 1 to 1.5 @ 50 metres... JP.
 
I've had 3 10/22's. The first was brand new and very accurate, reliable bought new in 1994. The second was from 1976 and also worked great. Big mistake selling that one. The last was a 2010 with a laminated thumhole stock, a very pretty pos. Ruger's quality has for sure went down since bill ruger died. Never again!
