Ruger 10/22 takedown........BRUTALLY DISSAPOINTED

Two other things to do/get:

1) http://www.manventureoutpost.com/products/Leupold-56506-Rifleman-Ruger-1022-(1%2dpc)-Matte.html

Can see through to iron sights using that mount versus the Ruger mount where you can't. In Canada, the Korth Group provides those to retailers.

2) http://www.midwayusa.com/product/59...with-picatinny-rails-ruger-10-22#ReviewHeader

Bipod, sling, flashlight...kitchen sink...whatever your heart desires can go on that sturdy barrel band. CGN sponsor Hi-cal sells those in Canada.

Have you checked it with a different mag? I've never had a problem with the stock mag, but it's weird that it's happening on the 9th round. In a range session, I do get the occasional FTE after a hundred rounds or so, then I may get one every 50 rounds or so. Never thought too much about it as I'm running cheap bulk ammo. Think I'm going to order a couple of those Volquartsen extractors - just cause I like to tinker.

Are you in the lower mainland? I go to DVC every couple of weeks if you want to meet up there sometime. You can try my TD and compare it to yours. You can try my stock 10 round mag and my BC 25 round mags in your TD as well. I'm feeling a bit guilty cause I sidetracked your thread a bit here and there and am getting a lot of good info out of it:)

Yep, she's still finicky. Had it out yesterday, only fired about 50 rounds, with 3 stovepipes. All on the 9nth round weirdly enough. Got say though, the gun is starting to grow on me. I'm probably gonna end up picking up a titanium extractor from somewhere, and see how that does.

Check this out. When I first got my TD i stripped it down and inspected it. I noticed this area in the reciever that was missed during machining. The only reason I noticed it was because the bolt face was hitting it and making a dent. I took a dremel and smoothed it out to where I thought it should be. I did this before even shooting the gun so I dont know if it would have been an issue or not. But this video was just posted on youtube. This guy seemed to be having the same issues you were having and he did the same thing as I did and it seemed to fix his problem. Check your TD and see if you have the same problem, this might be your issue. It might be getting better because this burr is getting worn down with use.

Wouldn't that be the AK 47, hands down.
If you include military purchases, then you may be right.
I have Googled it over and over, noting says anything about the Marlin 60..
Can't say I have even seen one, but I do own 3 870's and a couple 10/22's.

OP, I hope you get this sorted out, sorry for the off topic comments.

Nerco thread bump...

Will add...I have owned 6 10/22 and counting all the ones my friends and people at the local club own there is over 50 that I know get HIGH usage. Most shoot Federal blue box/525 value packs and have them run 99% +.

The guns MAY require a few 100 rounds to break in...firing pins and extractors due wear out over time (10,000s of rounds) but you can replace/upgrade them for around $25 total.

All in all they are GREAT guns...may require some simple work/mods but they are hardly a required "project gun".

ISSC Mk22 is a "Project gun" But damn do they shoot good once the project gets complete : )

Back on topic though. I just got a Ruger 10/22 take down and it is flawless straight out of the box.

I had lots of FTE's with my new 'standard, non-breakdown' 10/22. A friend suggested replacing the ejector, which I did. Cheap from Brownells, easy to replace and it solved my problem 100%. I recommended this to my friend, who bought his 10/22 at the same time, so I got him a Val ejector as well. He's still having problems, so maybe as others have suggested: put some rounds through it. My 2 cents.

The 10/22 stainless carbine was my first rifle and when I bought mine I had stovepipes. It would shoot HV ammo just fine (stinger + velociraptor) but anything else would be over 10% fail rate with the stock mag. 25 round mags were closer to 40% failure. This was unacceptable to me so I modded a few things.

1. Polished the bolt and the carrier (bolt is a mirror now)
2. Grinded and polished a radius in the rear of the bolt.
3. Changed the extractor (voltquartsen).
4. Added a bolt buffer.

I have had only one failure to feed (edge of the casing got stuck on the edge of the chamber) in over 2000 rounds since then and that was with a dirty 25 round mag (which are notorious for causing problems). FTE are a thing of the past. Even when I dump a 25 round mag in rapid succession it works perfectly. I can't tell you which thing solved the problem because I did all the mods at the same time but I now have a rifle that will fire 99.95% of the time. I cleaned my mags recently to try to get that last 0.05% of reliability. Also lubed it up with Militec-1. I always bring that rifle to the range to squeeze off some rounds and everybody loves to shoot it. Great fun for the kids too! Damn, now I want punch holes in paper.

So far mine has worked well, but I havn't shot it a lot yet either. If it ever does start to act up I'll make sure I try some of your suggestions.

Did you break it down, and clean all the crap from the factory out of it first before shooting it? The only 10/22 platform gun I've ever owned (seven of them so far) that didn't need some gunk cleaned out if it before it shot properly was my SR-22. It was nice and clean, everything worked the way it's supposed to and it shot perfectly out of the box. With all the others, I spent between a 1/2 hour and an hour cleaning the action and relubing it. In each case, the gun shot flawlessly afterward.
I don't think Ruger is any different than many other manufacturers; they're busy...punching out a TON of 10/22's to meet demand. Q.C. on the product is not as good as it was say, 20 years ago. The last 10/22 I bought...4 years ago? was absolutely full of dirty grease. I was getting a FTF or FTE about every third round. I cleaned and lubed it properly, and then went through very close to two full bricks of ammo before I had a FTE. I replaced the extractor with a Volquartsen, and never had an extraction failure the rest of the time I owned the gun...about two years an close to 10,000 rounds.

This is NOT slamming Ruger; they are the only .22's I own now. My next rimfire will be a CZ, probably in .17, but that's in a whole different price league even from the SR-22. It's a lot more expensive, but it's a lot more rifle in many ways. That said, if Ruger brought out an SR-.17, I'd be all over it like white on rice

I've had a 10/22 like that which was defective out of the box. Constant stove pipes. Not worth my time to try to fix. Bought a couple of more and they work fine. They do make some lemons sometimes, just like anyone else.
