Ruger 10/22 Takedown Build Thread

Just picked up a pair of those Skinner Take Down sights, like them alot! Wasn't sure at first, with the back sights being so far from the eye.. have the Skinner peeps on my Marlin 336 as well and they are excellent quality

Has anyone tried one of these:

seems like an option for folks running the factory barrel

That looks like a great rail for a red dot. Too bad they didn't make it longer to also accept a scope.

***EDIT***

Well, I was VERY excited about this, but if you look closely at the picture, this is really only designed for a 0.92" straight bull-barrel, not the thinner original 10/22 TD barrel which is tapered:

So, I called Dlask and talked to Joe himself who confirmed that this was designed for a bull-barrel. I asked if he would consider producing something for the standard barrel 10/22 TD. He said he'd think about it. My concern is that he might come back and say there isn't enough material on the standard barrel to tap a screw into.

Still, I'd like to know how this guy did it for his Scout mount, and so far forward on the skinnier portion of the barrel:

This Amega rail is something I've debated getting many times.

I’ve look at it too. It seems very expensive for what it is, and my biggest concern is that it relies on a front barrel band and the rear sight dovetail to hold it in place. Some online reviews suggest that it’s not solid enough for an optic to hold zero.

If you go for it, please let us know what you think.

I have a scout mounted scope on my SS 10/22 backpacker right now using the magpul forward red dot mount.

OP, how difficult are the rails to remove on those Tac Hammer barrels? My 10/22 currently has the OEM SS pencil barrel on it, but I want to go lighter. My options are to get a shorter barrel (provided it's lighter than the pencil barrel) or get someone to turn down my 18.5" pencil barrel to something shorter.

Thanks to some of you on this thread for your help on this one. Still need a Kidd trigger and a cheek riser for the Magpul X-22 stock but it is coming together. Still fits into the original Ruger soft case but I am building a hard custom case that will fit easily into my backpack.

The rail is a Tac-Hammer from Adaptive Tactical. I drilled and tapped the Ruger barrel instead of buying an after market barrel/rail combo so I can spend my allowance on ammo and get out shooting.

That looks good Forest1488. If you removed 1 or 2 stock spacers, you could mount the scope further forward and both sections would fit more easily in the case. That's what I did - I find the Magpul stock is quite comfortable, even with the reduced length of pull, as long as the scope eye relief is correct.
