Ruger 10/22 Takedown Optic

I'm curious if anybody has any input/suggestions on a compact scope for the Ruger 10/22 Takedown that doesn't break the bank?

I strapped on a 3-9 x40 but it's physically too large for the little plinker and gets in the way (binds against the forend) when breaking it down.

I've also read some suggestions that a barrel mounted scope may be more accurate on the Takedown, do to the fact that there may be small inconsistencies when reassembling it?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.
 
I know somebody who put one of those "Bug Buster" scopes on one, Leapers maybe? Can't comment on the quality, but they seem to sell well. (very small, AO, etc.)
 
The bug buster used to sell for around $125, I think they are closer to $200 now if you find one in stock. I'd think it would hold up well on a .22lr and the size is perfect for the takedown ruger.

You know what's funny is, I was curious and looked this morning and didn't see any available on amazon ca, That's not a bad price , not the $125 it used to be on amazon but considering inflation it's probably on par.

The only other ones I saw in Canada were over $200.00 plus tax plus shipping, I think one was $225 before tax and shipping.

I'm kind of leaning towards a fixed zoom at this point though (maybe a 4x32) for the size/weight/cost factors. It's just a plinker so I'm not likely to be reaching overly long range.

A common thread with the compact/stubby 4x optics (the cheaper ones anyway) seems to be eye relief and having to stretch forward into an unnatural position on the TD. Still shopping around for now.
 
I running a vortex crossfire II 2-7x32 on mine. Fits and works well so far. Not quite as compact as the red dot I had on for my first range visit. But at 25 yards I found it very hard to see my impacts on paper with the red dot. So I sacrificed a bit of small size for being able to see a bit better, thus making it more fun for me to shoot. Still quite a small backpackable package and very light. Eye relief I find is perfect if not a bit long (need keep head back ever so slightly than feels natural, More so for 7x zoom 6 and lower the scopes very forgiving.

It’s odd cause originally I had this scope on my Savage Mark II and hated it and promptly Replaced it with a Bushnell 4-12. But on the Ruger this vortex just seems a perfect fit I think.

+1 for the UTG bug buster, I have it on a TD and its great, very small, plenty of options on it and cheap (I bought it years ago)

Fits in the Ruger bag as well.

When at the range I used the highest magnification and the view/accuracy was very good.

The majority reviews I can find on it seem decent too.
It's on my short list.
 
I have two Ruger 10/22 take downs, both with a basic 4x20 IR compact scope mounted via a DNZ game reaper on the action. Whilst these are loveley little rifles they really are sub-optimal on accurracy compared to my fixed barrel 10/22's.

I'm going to do my best on accurising these two rifles, but in heart i know that the biggest upgrade will be a barrel change / barrel mount. Its just dumping more $ into the hole I suppose?

My Olympic grade setup is a Tasco BKRD30/22 Red Dot.:p It is my truck/tractor/combine gun. I drove over the whole thing with a 9570 fwd tractor one Spring. Bust an old Eagle magazine and mostly wrecked the bag, but rifle and scope survived! I use cheap batteries in the scope, which last IF I remember to shut the scope off. I keep a couple extras in the bag. Fits in the bag, too!

I've gone the opposite. :redface: Put a 6x62 German made Weatherby scope, I picked up used, on mine. Good optics are half the battle.
