Hey guys,

I'm buying my first gun! So damn excited!

I've decided on a 10/22 Takedown (not sure if I'm gonna get the bull barrel/target edition), however I need a scope!

So far I've leaned towards, UTG 3-9x32mm Bug buster, and the Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40mm....TO BE HONEST I have no idea why I should buy either one of them because I have very little knowledge on the matter!

ALL YOUR HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

THANKS!

I'd go with the Nikon, great scope and the added bonus of the lifetime warranty that is serviceable in Canada. I have a Mueller that I really like, but the elevation turret is seized for some reason and even thou it has lifetime warranty, I can't get it fixed under coverage because I can mail it back to the states, but no way of getting it back legally from the States.

My post on it is here .

Did you still want it to fit into the takedown bag that Ruger supplies with the rifle? You're going to need a pretty small scope if you do...

I just put a cheap-o fixed 4 power amazon special on mine. Works just fine, I can knock the primers out of 12 gauge shells at 30 yards, haha.

Just a heads up but any standard "foot long" optic will not fit inside the included backpack when mounted on the receiver.

You will want a stubby optic if you intend on using the backpack and not having to remove your optic every time.

I'm really thinking of getting the 10/22 target with 20" hammer forged bull barrel, and 2 stage 3 pound trigger, instead of the take down. I'll be using this mostly at the range so I think I should get something for precision shooting.

3x-9x power scope is way to much for 22LR.
Straight 4x power is a lot for the cartridge with max 75yds range.
I have oldie Redfield 4x power scope with 3/4" body on my 10-22 and newer ever desired more power than that.
If anything sometimes I would settle for much less.

OMG really?

What does that mean? Does anyone know what ammo CAN be used? I really like the Target because number 1, the take down is kinda iffy about precision accuracy (that was my first choice), 2, It has the bull barrel which is 20" longest 10/22 I've seen. Plus the trigger is better.

I know I can build any 10 22 to be the same, however this is my first firearm and I want it to be special lol!

I bought a Ruger 10/22 carbine as my first rifle about 10 years ago. I bought it with the full intent of customizing it to my liking so I purchased a plain jane carbine. 10/22's are the most customizable rifle in the world with no end to parts and pieces available.

I pulled the barrel and stock off my ruger and threw them in the closet. Went with an 18" Butler Creek Carbon Fiber barrel with ports, Laminate Silhouette thumbhole stock from Cabela's and a Leupold 3-9x40 scope. It shoots great with the Federal Champion 525 round packs.

I never quite understood the point of takedown guns unless you are really strapped for space to transport them. I also question their accuracy at times knowing the parts and pieces aren't torqued to spec all the time and it changes everytime you put the gun together.

You're over thinking this.

Find a 3-9x that offers a warranty, has no frills, no gimmicks, no illumination, just clean glass. Use that scope to learn about scopes, what you like, what you don't.
This won't be your last scope.

Do not, under any circumstance, turn the clock back 15 years and mount a 4x with 3/4 tube. Technology has come a long way.

Larger tube = more light
Larger objective = more light
More light = self explanatory
More magnification = more better ;) provided it's through quality glass.

I like your Nikon 3-9 choice, it'll serve you well I'm sure.

Congratulations on your upcoming first. Welcome to the club.

When you finally pick your optic, and get it mounted, come back and tell us how well it holds zero after being taken down. Browning had a problem with receiver mounted scopes and detachable barrels not holding zero after being taken down and reassembled. Eventually they developed a cantilever mount attached to the barrel specifically for .22 auto to solve this problem.

Watch the EE for a 2-7x28 (33) Leupold and do the Gewgle-Fu how to set
parallax on said scope.
I've got a few set up like this and dang, they work well.
I do beleaf there is one of these scopes in the EE right now for $200.00

They belong on rimfires ........ is my opinnyun.
