Ruger 10 22 target barrel accuracy expectations.

Hey guys. I'm thinking about getting a new 10 22 with the heavy "target" barrels and was wondering what type of accuracy can be expected. Is moa accuracy at 50 or 100 reasonable for the target models out of the box? Does 16 inch vs 20 inch make a big difference?

I had one of the older versions with the 20" barrel and the metal trigger works. I was shooting nickel sized 10 shot groups at about 80 yards. I used it more for gophers however, and never really stretched targets out to 100 yards (I didn't really care about super tight groups, just needed minute of gopher).

That's still decent for a 22 at that distance

I've owned a 10-22 VLEH for a short period of time. All I had the chance to do so far is sight it in with a cheap scope I put on it. My feelings so far are that it will absolutely be good to 1 moa or better. I'm not there yet but I feel that it is possible.

Ya, it wasn't bad at all. I was very impressed. I ended up selling it however and moving up to the Magnum Research. Cut down on the weight a lot (which I loved for carrying around the field) and has better accuracy yet.

Hey Ki3t_ly,

The 10/22 Target is an awesome choice if you're looking to do some bench shooting. Although Ruger doesn't give an accuracy guarantee on the 10/22 rifles, I would say that MOA accuracy is a very realistic expectation from the Target model. If you are familiar with the 10/22, then you'll know that it is probably the most customized rimfire on the planet. Most people looking to improve accuracy will upgrade to a heavy barrel and modify or upgrade the trigger, which has already been done on the Target model. That makes it a great starting point if you are thinking of doing a build with it. I personally own a standard laminate model and with my modifications, I can achieve minute groups at 50 if I am doing my part. Regarding barrel length, if you're not planning on shooting beyond 100 much, then either length will work for you. I have seen accuracy results from 10/22 rifles that sport 12" match barrels that shoot MOA or better. If you would like to chat further on the subject, please feel free to give me a call at 1-877-547-6873, as the 10/22 is still my favorite gun and I would be happy to share my experience with you.
