10/22 Brutal trigger pull

Hi all,
My wife and I are just getting into shooting as a hobby and social passtime. Long story as I got rid of the guns I used to have when Canada brought in C-68. I recently bought a 10/22 and put 100 rounds through it yesterday. I found the trigger pull to be brutal, especially while target shooting and trying to sight it in. I used to have a german Anchutz .22 and the trigger on it was feather light and great for target shooting. I understand there are lots of aftermarket 10/22 improvement kits out there. Any advice as to what to get that wont break my bank account and possible canadian sources. I also think the bolt lock mechanism is a joke and difficult to operate.

I'm just debating either building a 10/22 target or buying Rugers version. I like the factory stock and barrel, but it was years ago when I handled it and cant remember what the trigger was like.

A VQ or similiar target hammer will significantly improve the trigger for around $40. You can get full kits to replace hammer, sear, trigger, etc.. but they will cost more.
The bolt release can be easily modified to an auto bolt release by taking a dremel to it. See the 10/22 mods thread as it has great pics and step by step instructions. It will make it so you can release the bolt by pulling the charging handle back and releasing it.

Thanks for the information. I found the VQ website but they do not ship outside the US. Are there any canadian suppliers for the VQ parts. I'm reluctant to deal with Cabalas in Edmonton having mixed reviews of the target trigger kit they handle in the US.

I can highly recommend Brimstone's trigger service... David is a whiz with the 10/22 trigger... the triggers that he has done for me are the equivalent of my VQ TG2000's, Kidd single stage and RT groups... his Tier 2 service includes the auto bolt release and an RT full width trigger in the color of your choice for $70... I also talked him into a "Canadian Special"... he will do the Tier 1 service for $99... so that he can stay under the BATF limit for export... tell him I sent you. PM for more info.

I can attest to Brimstone's work. On Hoyt's recommendation I went ahead with Brimstone. I selected the "Canadian Special" Tier 1 service... wonderful work. I absolutely love the result.

I'm glad that worked out well for you... David is a great guy to deal with.
