Hi All,

For all you 10/22 owners...We are looking at bringing in stainless tool less takedown screws for the Ruger 10/22. Could be tightend/loosened by hand or with a coin/flat blade/pocket knife etc. The projected pricepoint would be around $20 CAD each.

Would you guys be interested in this?

A quick note on this. It is NOT small enough to ship as letter mail. We have to pay Canada Post the normal parcel rate to ship these, even in a small bubble mailer. We still charge $21.95 Canada wide, even though our cost for shipping is high currently with the increased fuel prices. Consider grabbing a magazine for your 10/22 at the same time if you want to get the most out of the shipping!

Would be a nice addition to any regular 10/22 aswell as the takedown models. Hope you find enough interest.
 
Yes, its a bit niche but I love tool less field stripping.

Especially because the regular 10/22 requires a 5/32 Allen key which yes it is a common Allen key but not something you have lying around. Toolless or being able to use something simple like a flathead is nice.

Maybe a few with different lengths of inside shoulders
And a version with double wide knurling


The one pictured wouldnt fit my stock ideally though
The countersink hole is deeper on my stock
So the outside shoulder would bottom out and contact the stock
There should be at least some clearance between the outside shoulder and the stock

This is a good note. Perhaps we can look into custom depths in the future.
 
I’d be if the design was a little different.

With the aluminum alloy action, working steel threads repeatedly through it can fatigue the soft threads pretty quickly.

I’d prefer if it had a steel insert for the action, and then a steel screw that threads to the insert repeatedly. Or maybe another design of similar principle, that would alleviate the wear on the action threads.

Just my 2 cents on the subject
 
The oem takedown screw is steel too so this doesn't really change anything in that aspect, only difference now you'd be able to loosen it with your thumb and finger instead of using a tool. That shouldn't increase wear, it's the same thing you always do when you disassemble it for cleaning.

The steel insert seems more like an enhancement that ruger could be doing at the factory.

From what I'm guessing with retro fitting a steel insert into the aluminum receiver you'd either have to permanently modify your receiver by drilling out the hole and re-threading for the insert so you're able to still use any takedown screw (factory or aftermarket) or loctite a steel insert in the current threads so it won't come out each time you disassembled your rifle but that'd mean this new takedown screw would have a smaller diameter and would be the only one you could use and can't switch back to a factory one unless you can get that insert out again.

Sorry not to crap on your idea, I like the thought of the steel insert but it doesn't seem like an easy plug and go add on but more of a small redesign for the 10/22 receiver itself..
 
I think as far as an industry solution, the direction would be more towards keeping the screw compatible with the factory threads, so that the user can easily replace the screw back to factory, find a replacement if it gets lost, doesn’t rely on a proprietary insert from the start, etc.

As far as concern towards the threading on the factory receiver, I haven’t personally had issues with the aluminum female threads even after more in-and-out than most users. But if the receiver does eventually strip out, it would be getting drilled out and an insert with the factory size threads would get installed.
