Ruger 10/22 Trigger Comparison - TEST RESULTS

I think that is great information for others who are trying to decide between these various triggers wayupnorth (re: Timney). However I now have a different problem....even after I sell my 2 stock Ruger triggers (currently in the EE) I still have one more than I need. The original plan was to sell either the Kidd drop in or the Brimstone after the testing, after all - if I keep them both it would have been cheaper to buy another KSS. Actually that makes me think... I could sell them both and get another KSS. Damn, I am not sure what to do....No, after more thought, I think I will shoot the Brimstone and Kidd drop in and then decide which to keep and which to sell.

i dont understand..... why would you sell your old trigger groups?
you could start to play with them yourself, try your hand at gunsmithing it and polishing it, see what does what and what lightens what.
plus having extra trigger groupls laying around is good for those long winters when you get a urge to build a new gun that saves you money right there!

selling ruger parts.... i dont know about you anymore!

I'm really not a budding amateur gunsmith, and not really interested in doing my own trigger mods. Installing a drop in trigger kit or modifying a bolt hold open is about the outer limit of my gunsmithing abilities. Luckily for me, my buddy Elimsprint has significant skills at machining and gunsmithing.

Just a quick trigger update:
My favourite 10/22 trigger, the silver Kidd single stage shown in the test, above, is not happy. Recently it started having issues where it would not reset and would have an occasional 2 or 3 round full auto burst. It was fully dismantled, cleaned, adjusted and lubricated, but the problems persist. Has anyone else run into similar issues? I have sent an email to Kidd, hopefully I can send it back to the factory and have Kidd adjust/repair it so that it works properly again. I'm not sure if Kidd will receive and ship triggers directly to/from Canadian customers. I will post the results here.
Cheers

Just for those coming in with no knowledge (not saying the OP is guilty, he obviously knows his stuff). But the two stage trigger is specifically designed to have that much take up. Its a great field trigger with a target trigger weight 2nd stage. The 1st stage takes up a majority of the weight and any movement beyond the 1st stage the 2nd stage is almost instantaneous in releasing the firing mechanism. I have the Kidd 2 stage on my CRPS/Mapleseed rifle set to 1.5lb with about a 60/40 split on the weight (.9lb on the first stage and .6 on the second). When the rifle is cocked the sear engagement is close to .040" (close to 10x of a factory ruger trigger), taking up the 1st stage bring that engagement to just about .001" and any further pressure back (that .6lb on my rifle) and you get one hell of a clean crisp trigger break. I achieved a quite high Mapleseed score with that rifle and I don't think I would have scored that high without that trigger, it is amazing. Also I have tested it multiple times by cocking the rifle (while unloaded and cleared) taking the safety off and bumping the stock quite vigorously on a concrete floor. Not once have I had that 1.5lb trigger set off by a simulated drop. Here is my initial testing target set at Mapleseed distance (25m), shot from prone position and sling if I recall. 10 shot group with a center to center spread of .220".

What Mapleseed category do you shoot this rifle in?
What is the value of the rifle and the scope?

I'm assuming this is directed at myself.

There is no real categories to Mapleseed as it is a marksmanship training program, not really a competition. 210 to score a rifleman score for yourself and its out of 250.

In the Canadian Rimfire Precision Series (CRPS) I am placed in the open division as my rifle costs more than $500 and has upgrades that improve accuracy.

The scope is just a Bushnell AR-223 and can be had for around $250. The rifle was a special project for me do it was on the more pricey side. All in with all the accessories and bits and shipping tossed in for all those bits it's close to 2500.{
