Yeah, another one of THOSE threads.

Buddy of mine loaned me two of his .22s for cleaning and tweaking, and seeing as one of them was a 10/22, I opted to take both it and my own Marlin 60 out to the range to prove a point.

The majority of these two rifles are stock; no trigger jobs, no fancy barrels, no spring changes. The Marlin has a Boyd's custom RVT thumbhole stock, but I have not yet bedded it so it provides little in the way of benefit other than being ridiculously comfortable to shoulder. The Ruger is a standard-model, roughly 3 years old.

As a handicap, I left the Ruger its 4x40 Bushnell scope, while my Marlin only has its Tech-Sights peeps.

Weather conditions today were damn awful though; winds gusting up to and beyond 50kph, and the new berms here at the Medicine Hat range didn't little as a buffer. I wanted to do some shooting out to 50 yards, but that wind just made it hell; the target stands kept wobbling out there, so I stuck to the sturdier and nearer 25 yard board.

Firing 5-round groups of CCI Minimags, Winchester 333s, Federal 525s and Federal American Eagles.

Even with the benefit of a 4x scope, the Ruger was beaten by the Peep-sight Marlin.

I will say that I did enjoy firing the Ruger; the action on them is indeed superb and I consider it slightly superior to my Marlin's action, but this comparison has only reinforced that tube mags are the only way to go for .22s, in my eyes; holds more rounds, easier to reload.

Thanks for telling us what we already knew:):):)

I mean that in a good way, bro. I just enjoy reading Marlin 60 love threads.

BTW, I recently sold 2 60s on the EE. The first one had three offers within an hour, ten offers in 24 hours. I had to sell the 2nd 60 to the second buyer, didn't have to list on the EE. Their PMs were so touching I could cry.

Not that there was anything wrong with my 60s, I just prefer bolt action over semis, so the Marlin 981T is staying for a while.

After doing a little research between the Ruger 10/22 and the Marlin 60, I had already decided to purchase the Marlin. I have also noticed there always seems to be 10/22's for sale in the EE but almost never any Marlin 60's. I wonder why? ;)

Wow... that is aweful shootingwith the ruger, especially at 25m.

I loved my 60ss too, but i sold it in a moment of weakness to buy a CZ 452.

Here's a couple of my better 10 round groups at 25 and 50m in perfect conditions. These were shot with the factory hi-vis sights using CCI standard velocity. The papoose shot very well too but the barrel nut was loose when i shot the first two groups in the first target pic. The third group shown in the second pic was after tightening it up a bit.
