Which Williams sight specifically do you have on that 795, by the way? I'm looking for a peep for my Model 60 which has the same receiver and barrel. Williams' website isn't forthcoming about which one fits them.

Since I figure 3 795 threads on the front page might be a bit much, ill put a question in here. I ended up buying a 795, and brought it home yesterday. Unfortunately, I didnt notice at the store, but it looks like the front sight has been chipped/filed down slightly - You can see bare metal.

Sorry for the poor focus, my camera doesnt handle things up close very well. The shiny portion is where the front sight appears damaged. Should I look into getting it exchanged/repaired, or just live with it?

Mine is the same. I'm pretty sure they filed it on purpose to make the sight easier to see. Kind of a poor man's brass bead if you will. Enjoy your new rifle!
It is the WGRS. I actually have a new peep sight in the mail for my 795 as I'm not completely satisfied with the Williams. I had to use silicone to keep the windage adjustments locked in and I also had to file it quite a bit to get it to fit.
The way the WGRS works is, there is a dovetail styled slot that the peep rides side to side in for windage. There is a small set screw to keep it locked in place. The screw does not hold it securely at all - hence the silicone.
I ordered a NECG tip off rail mounted peep sight that works very similarly to their Weaver mounted peep sight. (the one I have on my 10/22 which is awesome BTW) I'm hoping that it arrives today. As soon as it does, I'll provide a full review of the two sights with their strengths and weaknesses.
I'd hold off on buying one or the other until you see the review as it may provide you with some insight before you waste your money. (like me)

I am also looking for the elusive 25 rd mags for this firearm.Ill keep am eye on this thread and also post if I have any luck.
I picked up one of the shooter's choice 25rnd mags for the 795 (with the green follower....I hear there is an updated grey follower) the other day and got up to the range yesterday to try it out. I was using it in a marlin 70. With most of the ammo I had it worked great (cci sub sonic, cci mini mag, cci standard velocity, american eagle 40grn solids, winchester dynapoints. Only had 2 failures in about 200 rounds.
........BUT, with winchester 555 bulk, I couldn't get 2 shots off in a row without it jamming bad, had trouble clearing the jam and couldn't remove the mag. The nose of the round kept going too high and then getting bent into an L shape by the bolt.
So apparently, it really dislikes the 555 bulk, but it ran quite well otherwise and I'm pleased with it.

So the NECG peep sight finally arrived and it is now installed and working great.
So first of all, here is the NECG Rimfire Receiver Sight beside the Williams WGRS-54:
The NECG is much more rugged due to size, design and material. It is made from steel. The Williams is aluminum.
The Williams slides on to the rail and is then held in place by a set screw. A lot of filing was needed to widen the bottom of the Williams sight just to get it to slide on to the rail. This pic depicts the damage by the top set screw (to keep the sight from moving) when it loosened off a bit and slid back from recoil.
The NECG clamps on and is held in place with two screws.
The Williams is adjusted by loosening set screws and sliding the elevator up and down a ramp and the peep side to side in a dovetail styled cutout. As you can see in this pic, it needed healthy doses of silicone to keep it in place. The windage set screw did not hold at all, even with loc-tite. The elevation screw did better, but I still gooped it up to be sure it didn't move. You can also see the damage it took when I pounded it off the last rifle it was on. Clearly, it hadn't been fitted properly.
The NECG sight windage is adjusted by loosening and tightening screws on either side of the sight to move it side to side. Simple, imprecise, but solid. Once it's tightened down, it will not lose zero. The elevation is adjusted by a screw on the top which lifts and lowers the aperture. The aperture is then screwed in tight to lock the elevation in place. Again, not terribly precise, but again, it works and is very solid.
The NECG is $85 US plus shipping from the NECG website. They quoted my $40 to ship, but only charged me $7. (as high as the shipping was, I was still happy to pay it to get the clearly superior sight)
The Williams is $38.95 US plus shipping. You almost get what you pay for.
So far, the NECG is solid, accurate, rugged and reliable. I've had zero problems with it and can hit pop cans very reliably out to 50 yards with no problem.
I have a 3/8" Williams Ramp with a 5/16" fiber optic post on the front which works very well.
Now if someone would like to send me a set of Tech Sights, I'll post a review of them as well.
