I am just wondering if the price of getting the customized TUF 22 is worth the extra money over a standard .22? I have found myself shooting more 22LR than anything else in the gun safe so I would like to get a nice, higher quality 10/22. Between myself and my kids coming into shooting age, I know these .22's are going to get a work out and why not it is FUN! We would mostly be shooting targets at 25-50 yards or closer even, mostly plinking but throw in some grouse and gophers for sure. The older 10/22 I have now seems accurate enough for my needs but is there a significant advantage to the TUF .22 over the new standard ruger 10/22's? I see some of the factory ones are selling around the $300 mark which is pretty attractive. Any of the builds I have seen on the forum look amazing hence why I am tossing around the idea.

By the sounds of it I guess it depends on your budget . A full blown custom build with all the best parts will be like apples to oranges between the two. Kinda like a Skoda will get you there, but a Rolls will do it in style. All that being said, I know of a bunch guys that beat the living hell out of their factory 10-22's and they still keep chugging along with periodic maintenance . Your wallet, your call.

For the type of shooting you are describing using bulk ammo you won't see any advantage in accuracy or reliability from a TUF-22 over a decent running stock 10/22.

Kewl factor, aesthetics and pride of ownership might steer you more in the direction of a TUF-22 and it's a quality product but the overpriced propriety magazines with a spotty track record for reliability wouldn't be my sole reason to purchase.

I’d have to disagree with the statement that you won’t see any accuracy improvement using cheap ammo. Both my Kidd/Dlask and my buddies Magnum Research are substantially more accurate with pretty much anything you run through them. For whatever reason my buddies Magnum Research seems to prefer Mini Mags the most.

Get a Dlask its a superior firearm in every way possible!

^^This.

If you buy the stock gun, you'll end up spending (at least) the price of the gun again trying to get it to shoot "just a bit" better. If you get the Dlask, it'll shoot out of the box. Your choice - I'd get the Dlask.

Pretty tough to find a new 1022 for $300.00, the discounted ones at Christmas are long gone, by the time you add in tax and shipping and or the cost of your fuel to pick it up your probably closer to $400.00

Buying used will get you closer to the $300.00 mark.

If your plans are to shoot it as is, look for a used one on the EE.

If your going to upgrade purchase the Dlask.

An improved trigger, via outright purchase , a trigger kit, or tuning and an Aftermarket barrel will give you the most accuracy for your dollar.

If your patient these can be found on the EE as well, know your prices .

2 other things, all 22 are picking about which ammo they shot, you need to try as many different ones as possible. next use a good rest and scope to determine the rifles accuracy potential.

Good Luck

I run a Dlask TUF22 with the 30 MOA rail and it's amazing, the fit of my barrel to the receiver is so tight I had to shrink fit it in (froze my barrel, heated up the receiver). I use a KIDD bolt and an IBI barrel and it's super accurate. Well worth the money!

Keep in mind that even if you upgrade a Ruger you will be stuck with an inferior receiver.

The Dlask is heirloom quality and is virtually impossible to wear out. Also having an integral rail is a nice touch

I bought a 10/22 Competition from Ruger. Integrated 30MOA rail, chamber dimensions close to a Bentz, second receiver screw in the rear. It shoots 10rnd groups at 89M between 1 1/4” and 1 3/4” with CCI SV. $1250

Thanks for the input, I might have to pull the trigger on the TUF-22. I have a standard ruger 10/22 so even though its shelling out more $$$$ it may be worth it.

you can get a Dlask, in an MDT chassis with a rear lug, and with a true Bentz chamber, in any barrel length you want for right about the same money.

You are right. Almost the same rifle, including the BX trigger pack, for almost exactly the same price. I just hit Dlask’s website. Every component to build the same rifle as the Ruger Competition is out of stock. Part of the reason I bought the Ruger.

I also bought a Ruger 10/22 Custom Competition because of:
1) availability
2) resell value <- almost zero financial risk

I might upgrade to a Dlask this spring if I’m happy with the Ruger!

My Ruger shoots almost as well as my T1X, but the BX trigger leaves something to be desired. If I were building one a better trigger would be first in the list. Then a chassis that works well on barricades and bags.
