My ruger's been giving me some issues lately. I've been shooting with a hot lips magazine, and I predict that may be some cause to the cycling issues...but I think I need some parts upgrading.

What should I get, apart from a volquart extractor?

Get rid of the mags. Use the factory or steel lips mags and you should be fine.

factory mags

I agree, the 10 shot factory work flawlessly, plus they don't hang below to get hung up on stuff. I've used 25, 30 and 50's, they are fun but tend to give trouble once in awhile. just get a bunch of factory clips and keep em close and full.

I just picked up a 10/22 on Friday and it has problems too. I thought it might have been the steel lips but it has issues with the 10 shot Ruger clip that came with the gun too. Not too often but it does have them.

I doubt it was temp because everything was room temp and at an indoor range. The ammo was the cheap Walmart Dynapoints. I don't see how that should change much. The ejector should work no matter the ammo.

Maybe you should strip and clean the gun and mags if you haven't already.;) If that doesn't help, send it to me and buy something else.:D

The biggest issue on 10\22's seems to be failure to extract. I have replaced 8 extractors to date on my own and friends rifles. I have went with the VQ match extractor. Rimfiresports.com has the product and will ship to Canada.
With 10 rd. Ruger mags and the VQ extractor, problems go away---with about any ammo.

Good Shooting

have you guys stripped your rifles down and cleaned them? 10/22's are blowback operted and get filthy. I have had mine working flawlessly for 8 years. other than a few duds.. which I cant help.. never had an issue.

what is are the problems you are experiencing? failure to feed? failure to extract? jams?
what part of "cycliing" is the issue?

The hot lip mags seem to have issues. I have one that has yet to give me a full 25 rounds without a feeding failure - i use a VQ extractor's on all my rifles so extrraction not the issue. The steel lip butler creeks are much better, but none of them measure up to the factory 10 rounders. ( there are also the Tactical inc magazines - http://www.tacticalinc.com/ti25-machined-aluminum-steel-lipbrmagazine-ruger-1022-p-212.html that are adjustable, but I have yet to try them out.)

So what it sounds like, is my hot lips magazine has become unreliable (after only 3 or 4 months of use) and the extractor needs to go. Alright.

So I should get a VQ extractor and 2 or 3 Tactical Innovations magazines? The metal ones are too pricey for my blood, but I remember watching a video of the composite magazines being run over by a truck and not having ANY damage.

Anyone interested in doing a group buy on VQ extractors? Or is this something I should just do for Nine and myself? :D

Would buying a new stock give me any more reliable feeding from the mags as well? Currently with the factory wood stock I have a lot of wiggle room with the magazine "in place".

the polymer tactical innovations mags -which have the same features as the metal ones - are on sale right now- $34.99 or maybe less if you get 4 which is not that much more than butler creek steel lips- and you can get 4 in one order for shipping to Canada. If you read their adjustment instructions on the sitethey should eliminate your wiggle problem -which may be the source of failure to feed problems.

I don't work for them - but I just ordered a metal and polymer ones to try :D.

The VQ (or Power Custom) extractors are not that much -they are a small part ( last time i bought one (a while ago now) I think i paid $10 or so. they are well worth it.

Alright. I think I'm getting a VQ extractor, VQ enlarged bolt+bolt rod assembly, VQ target hammer assembly and 3 tactical innovations mags.

I need to sell at least one more gun to make room for all this!

Sorry, one last question. Do you guys think getting the VQ enlarged bolt + assembly is a waste of money? What about a VQ extended mag release? I'm going for functionality right now, I'll upgrade the stock and barrel next year.

Too late! I just ordered a couple extractors (one for nine), a bolt + spring and a target hammer. I'll have to order the tactical innovations magazines tomorrow, since I don't have a phone right now and they stop taking phone orders in 10 minutes...what's up with their phone sales only policy on Canadian orders?

I got a hot lips and have no problems. Last week I put a min of six hundred rounds through it and no jams and another two hundred with the stock mag. I clean the gun and MAG and give it alittle oil after a day of shooting and it's good to go. The type of ammo plays a huge factor mine really likes winchester super X. It will jam alot with american eagle or federal. not all are the same. find ammo it likes and stick with it

I have some Tac-Sol mags in mail coming to me.

The dude on the phone claimed that sometimes the mags get through the border fast, but sometimes Canadian customs likes to sit on them for two weeks.

Its been 5 days so far...
