Ruger 10/22s Love 'em? Hate 'em? Tell me.

I love my SR-22. Works like a charm, at least after she was broken in. As many have said, it ain't no tack driver, but much of that may be due to human error :D Accuracy is consistently minute-of-partridge-head at about 25 paces, or even more if I have a good rest. This rifle is on my "never part with" list.
 
The only reason I have 3 of the 10/22's is b/c I don't yet have 4 !...:D

(1) A 10/22 with the longer barrel and metal trigger housing, no barrel band - that was the initial "state" :p , thenI added a VQ extractor & Tuffer-Buffer (very cheap additions, maybe $20 total) and I put it into a Tapco stock w/the "bent" stock rod, and attached some Tech-Sights to it.....it'll easily perforate ragged holes at 25 yards, piece of cake.

(2) A 10/22 with heavy barrel, VQ extractor & Tuffer-Buffer (very cheap additions, maybe $20 total) , Butler Creek stock with hogged-out barrel channel and a bipod that folds-into it (integral?), a very cool "build" by sl66ICEcuba :cool: , and it makes very nice groups at 50 yards with a cheap NcStar 3-9x40 scope.

(3) A 10/22 in a Butler Creek side-folder stock, just too much fun during plinking, even with a basic 4x scope...:)

So, long-story short...awesome hi-cap magazines (esp. considering so many have steel-lips ! ), a great and "very fun-to-customize" platform (seriously, you can't dress a 597 up to look like a Tommy Gun, now can you ? :yingyang: ) , and a reliable and suprisingly accurate rugged 'lil rifle.
 
Ruger 10/22's - Love 'em

Bought my 10/22 carbine just this side of thirty years ago, after I got out of high school (kind of a graduation present to myself). Couldn't put a number on how many rounds have been run through that rifle but it has ALWAYS been dead nuts RELIABLE and ACCURATE. Served duty for years on the farm as the "milk house or silo room" gun with all the love and care you would expect your Dad & older brother to lavish on borrowed hardware (ie: don't think it was ever used as a pry bar).

When I needed a rifle to give smallbore metallic silhouette a try in about '96, I borrowed it back and gave it the first serious cleaning. I had a local gunsmith smooth up the trigger, topped it with a 12X scope & managed to work up to AA class. My oldest daughter shot silhouette with it this summer & did well for her first time out - so the accuracy is still there. It's short, light & handy - still my go to rifle for skunks etc & still makes me smile when I empty the magazine in a hurry (used to have two 25 shot magazines that clipped together - REALLY warms the barrel up when you'd empty them :D ..the second or third time...)

No, it's not an Anschutz quality trigger, nor does it have a hand rubbed walnut stock with checkering and a grip cap, and you can't cover a 10 shot group at 100M with a dime.

It IS a plain birch stocked / barrel band / carbine model "working gun" that's accurate enough when I squeeze the trigger & miss, I know it's me.

It just happens to be one rifle I would never part with.

I currently have 3. I have had a few more. They're reliable, compact, accurate enough and easily customizable. I've had plenty of other semi's but I always go back to the ruger.
 
I can't comment on how they shoot, but I can say I handled one at a gun shop, that was probably the worst put together firearm I've seen in ages :( the fit and the finish was just a disaster. This was the standard model. It seemed to be painted and not blued. The plastic butt-plate did not fit well into the stock, the wood was cut rectangular around the receiver, so much so; it had gaps. Maybe this one was a cosmetic dud or something, maybe it shot very well. I did find the fit and finish of the smaller model, with the shorter barrel and length of pull to be pretty decent, and it at least had a blued barrel. The synthetic stock version looked pretty darn good. I think you get what you pay for, and it would be best to go for a more "Deluxe" model.
 
My 10-22 was my only 22 rifle for many years. I would hate to say what i paid for it back in the 70`s. With a good scope it killed many gophers some skunks and a fox or two. Triggers aren`t great but useable, it doesn`t get to play as much since i got a CZ varmint but it won`t get sold either. I know of one SS 10-22 that has problems and if Sksavenger would do the honorable thing and sell it to me i think i could make it work. No way in h*ll i`ll spend more than the gun is worth to make it a "black rifle" but that is just me. Would i buy another, yes. Likely watch the gunshows i attend and let some buds know i`m looking for an older model.
 
I have 2. I love my Circa 1980 much more than the newer one. I still like the stainless newer unit but the old one has no poly. Most reliable semi .22 there is.
 
I bought mine used about 40 + years and about 30, 000 rounds or so ago. Added a VQ extracter and firing pin when I recently pulled it out of the safe after a very long period of inactivity.

This, plus finding the ammo brands the rifle likes, gives me 100 % reliability out of 3 mags and about 90 % out of the 4th...and I am working on that.
 
10/22's are like PC (the computer). With its modular design, any and all parts can be replaced till you have an excellent gun. There is no other .22 that offers that. I happen to have two that are heavily modded and both are for different purposes. Those that don't like the Ruger modular approach can pick from many other brands.
For gophers and plinking, the 10/22 is excellent: there is no other semi-auto .22 I use or want.
I am disappointed however with Ruger's continued cheapening of this gun. The earlier versions were the best, IMHO.

It's made by NECG (New England Custom Gun) and I really like it.

It holds zero very well between installations although it's kind of a pain to set up the windage. But, once it's set, it's set for good (unless you change ammo of course)

I got mine directly from NECG and they had no problem shipping to Canada.
 
I've never met a gun I didn't like and the 10/22 is no exception. Have a few in different configurations and love them all. Great gun if you like customizing.
 
Own 4 10/22's now, just sold a older model on the EE to buy a SR22 for my self. If you add my son's 10/22 youth compact & a SR22 he got for christmas, that would be 6 in total in the house hold. With the new SR22 i'm getting within afew days that would be 7 rifles. Do i love them, YES in deed.
 
My first firearm was a 10/22 and I still love it:D Just got a second (KIDD custom) and love that too! Have been through several $$$$$.$$ of firearms and will always have room for a 10/22 (or two)
 
A 10-22 was my first firearm and it's seen several barrel and stock configurations. If I keep it clean, I can go 2000 rds before it starts to jam. I figure this rifle is pushing 90k rounds fired. I love my Ruger.
 
I owned a couple of them early in production.
Nothing about them really stood out in my mind.
I own 20 or so 22 rimfires. None are 10-22s.
Only semi I own is an old, very reliable Mossberg 151M.
