Ruger 1A? Are they worth the price/hassle?

Big fan of the no 1, that's why I have 11! They can be great shooters with the right reloads. My 22-250 is the most accurate gun in my collection.

That's one of the cardinal sins of gun ownership. Another is shooting a donor.

Number 1 is slightly stronger and styled in the European colonial tradition rather than the American frontier tradition. I have both, an 1885 in 45-70 and a #1H in 458 Win Mag. I bought the 458 because I wanted an 1885 in 45-70 and I saw it in the used section of the local newspaper and thought it was close enough. Two weeks later I saw the 1885 and bought that one too (in a bank parking lot, no less). In my mind, the 1885 should only be chambered in a rimmed cartridge like the 45-70. It just feels right, where something liek a 7RM in an 1885 would feel like putting a satellite dish on a steam locomotive. At the same time, the #1 can kinda go both ways...the A, S, H all feel to me like they should be rimmed cartridges, but they don't have to be. The B and V feel like they should be rimless. There is no logic in this, it's all feelings.
 
Great mechanical design. At first I thought they were a bit homely looking, but they grow on you. I have had a 7mm stainless and 7mm blued. I currently have a blued 300 win mag. But I'm really looking for a stainless 45-70. I always seem to miss them when they pop up for trade/sale.
 
Great classic guns one chambered in 303 would seem right at home in the hands of a big game hunter like Frederick Selous.Hunting with a Ruger no 1 is like going back in time with the likes of Selous View attachment 677500

PS Before anyone says anything I know that’s not a Ruger no 1 in the pic lol

Yes Uberti did but it is a Winchester HighWall replica.Too bad Ruger didn t do one especially with express sights
