How does the Ruger 22/45 stack up against the MK III?
I have been searching high and low for a MK III with a tapered barrel. I like the looks of it. All I am hearing from the gun shops is that it could be on back order for 8 motns to a year! Seems like a long time.

I do not like the looks of the 22/45 grip angle. I also do not like the looks of the bull barrel. I would prefer a metal frame over a plastic one. Having said that, I think I may have to settle for one.

The 22/45 seems a bit easier to find. A few places even have one in stock.

What are your thoughts?

The 22/45 is much lighter because of the polymer frame. I had both a 22/45 and a Mk.II and I sold the Mk.II, didn't like the weight and how the grip felt in my hand.

I believe the grip angle of the 22/44 is supposed to be modeled after the 1911. In terms of the action the two pistols are nearly identical.

The reason you don't find very many MKIII's in stock is they are more popular than the 22/45. And when you do find a MKIII in stock it likely won't be the tapered barrel you're looking for, the bull barrel is more popular version of the pistol.

Keep your eye on the EE, there's probably 3 or 4 MKII's and MKIII's that pop up every week and every now and then one of them is a tapered barrel.

Try to handle both before you buy.
Grip angle/girth and weight are very different. If you get the 22/45 I would suggest the RP version (replaceable panels). I found the regular 22/45 grip too thin.

Try before you buy, as others have said. It's all about weight and grip angle, both of which I like better on the Mk3.

Roger at shooterschoice.ca has a beaut target model Mk3, (i know not tapered but..)

My Ruger 2245 runs like a top love it! I don't mind the grip being a bit thin because my kids love shooting it and it's a great way to get new people into shooting pistols. Only complaint is it's an absolute biotch to disassemble and clean and reassemble.

I had the Marklll tapered barrel and now have the 22/45 RP stainless slab-side barrel and like it better.I also find it easier to take down then the all steel version. Both are great shooters..

Lots of MK1/MKII used on the market....I prefer them to the mkiii and all the added safety garbage they put in them.

22/45 is lighter and has similar grip angle and control placement to the 1911. If you get one, get one with the replaceable grip panels. I considered a 22/45, but I thought the polymer lower felt cheap and I couldn't find an RP.

The Mk III is heavier, but feels like it's built better as a result. It's all metal, has replacement panels. The grip angle is more swept-back which helps with pointability. If you wanna do bullseye, the more swept back grip angle will be a benefit.

Most internal aftermarket parts are compatible with both pistols, so if upgrades are you concern I wouldn't worry.

Aside from that they're both fine. They have the same action and barrel so one isn't going to be more accurate than the other. But again, if you can't find a 22/45 RP I would not even bother with it.

you can replace the loaded chamber indicator and the magazine safety

Yeah it's super easy to remove the magazine disconnect. You just need either a new bushing or the mk III bushing and some washers haha.
