I’m considering a Ruger .22 semiauto (bull barrel), but am undecided re these two models. Obviously grip angle can be a matter of personal preference, but I’d appreciate user feedback. Also, is the Mk.III series really an improvement over the Mk.II? I might consider a used Mk.II as well.

Many thanks,

:) Stuart

I really like the 22/45 MKIII. I've had both, I think the MKIII is a better feeling pistol (for me). The difference in grip size is significant.

IMHO the new MKIII features are a step backwards for Ruger. Mag disconnect safety & loaded chamber indicator are useless features.
22/45 always had the american style mag release, MKII has heal mag release, but for a plinker this is fine.
Steel frame feels like a much better made pistol, but the grip angle was wierd for me. I sold my 5.5" MKII and kept the 5.5" MKII 22/45. Both were extremely reliable and accurate.

I went with the MKIII instead of the 22/45 because I wanted to change the grips. I know someone selling a 22/45 SS that has less than 1000 rounds through it. PM me if you want details.

Hunter MK111

Love mine, bit of a bugger to take down and put back together the first time. Ruger now has great video instruction on their website, it helped. I put a C-More on mine, really fun!
IMHO the loaded chamber indicator is a good idea. If people think the loaded chamber indicator is not really for a seasoned shooter, ok. Alot of new shooters may start into the sport shooting a .22, just another safety feature.
Fun reliable gun:dancingbanana:

Loaded chamber indicators, IMHO, are an unnecessary 'safety feature' and the same goes for a magazine disconnect. It lulls the shooter into believing that there is an extra margin of safety when there really isn't and can, inadvertently, promote bad habits. The best way to see if there is a round in your chamber is to visually check it by pulling the bolt back. Bah, what do I know.....

Thanks for the input; you can all relax now. In a moment of weakness I bought a used Mk II (!) with a heavy barrel from Epps. But who knows- I may eventually end up with a 22/45 as well.
