Ruger 28 gauge value

Picked up a used 28 gauge Ruger recently and was wondering what its value would be. Theres no box or literature and it has three chokes but no wrench but I can remove the chokes with my finger so theyre not rusted or stuck. It has some usage marks but seems to be really nice condition. Thanks for looking and your opinions on fair value.

I don’t know much about shotguns but there are some 12 gauge versions on ####### for $2500+. I’m thinking $2500 to $2800. I would start higher and go from there. It’s gorgeous and the straight stock is very desirable for me. I believe at $2500 it would go quicker if someone is looking for a 28 gauge. At least you can get shells for it compared to .410

I have a Ruger Red Label, but several significant features different than the Ruger that you show. Mine is in 20 gauge, so I think your 28 gauge ups the price some - at least at the time I would have paid more for a 28 than for a 20 - might be just me, though. Mine has fixed Skeet and Skeet chokes - for some people, those replaceable chokes on yours might up the price? Mine has blued receiver and red recoil pad - that might make difference to some about what they would pay? And mine has a pistol grip, so your straight English grip might up the price as well, for some people - not so sure how important that is with a single trigger, though. I paid $1,200 to have this one mailed to me from Nova Scotia in Nov. 2020 - so some more to be added, I suspect, after 3 years? All in all, I am not the world's best bargain hunter, so I might have paid more than others would have, then - but might give you a ballpark "guesstimate" for price - when buying (or selling) used guns, condition is everything - and some sellers sound like they have never even looked into the bore to know what is in there - maybe stock colour and grain configuration is more important to some, than function? Your post said that you recently "picked it up" - so what you paid is likely the current market value of it, wherever you are. Another Buyer might have had different thoughts about the price that was asked for it - up or down.

bingo!!

I wouldn't pay over $1000 for a Ruger Red Label in any gauge. Had one of the first series in a 20 gauge as that was all they were offered in originally. Nice looking guns but didn't care for the feel of the action, workings of it or balance. Felt clunky in all aspects. Too bad because they are a sharp looking gun imo.

About 4-5 years ago I sold a 28 ga Ruger, 26" barrels with choke tubes, straight stock for $1800.

Well the 28 is built on a scaled action and I’ve owned quite a few o/u and it actually feels very smooth. It fits me well and I shot it 25 or more years ago and shot a straight with it the first time shooting it. A very knowledgeable member on here sent me a pm and informed me he sold his a few years back for $2400 with 10 Briley chokes and original but pad. I was offered the gun for free by a longtime friend. I wouldn’t take it so he said $500 cuz he paid $600 many years ago. I also know the original owner and he didn’t shoot it much. I gave my friend $1000 for it so I got a good deal and he got double what he asked! Thanks for everyone’s input. I’m happy and so is the gent I aquired it off.

Reliable this year has had three go through the front door for far more than the prices you mention.
A Twenty and another Twelve (not DU mind you)... just mentioning this for future considerations for those looking.
Sometimes there is buyer remorse and sometimes it is the seller too.

Well Ive received a few PMs about this gun and it seems our neighbors across the pond have a greater appreciation of this gun than we have. Theyre selling for $3000-$4000 in the USA. This is not from one site but many from what Ive been told. So apparently most of the opinions on here were on the rather light side other than the pm from 3Macs who hit the nail on the head. Im not looking to sell but if anyone has one you may want to look into the sale of it across the border. Just sayin and everyone has their own opinion but should be taken with a grain of salt apparently!!So first was the fact its 28 and not 12 or 20 and the stock configuration is also important as well as the fact its built on a BABY or scaled action which gives the gun a completely different feel.Take into consideration this is in US dollars also puts the Canadian price way up there! Just an FYI for some. Cheers and merry Christmas

Just because they’re asking 3-4000 doesn’t mean they’re selling at those prices, post some ads that have actual bids or ones that have sold and you’ll likely see the value isn’t that high. The US market is a whole different animal to begin with.

I've had all three and sold them all. Not saying anything against them, but in my opinion, they are over-hyped by our southern neighbours. Market in Canada is much softer than the lower 48.

There’s been a nice condition 20 gauge listed on the EE for the last four months and hasn’t sold for $2390. I know the 28 is worth more but…. Just sayin.

I don't put a lot of faith in advertised prices, as the sellers often sell for less, sometimes much less, when there is no interest at the initial asking price. And there are always the people that really want a specific firearm, and they will pay more than the normal market price to buy it. So value comes down to what people are willing to pay. I haven't handled many Red Labels, and I haven't even fired one myself, but from what I have seen and handled, I would not pay $3000 for one in any gauge, even $2000 would be a stretch.

They seem to have an inherent flaw. Think it’s to do with the ejectors going over the shells rim. Lack of spare parts hurts.

Advertised prices are just that not reflective of the actual sale prices but don't forget the 28 gauge market is a bit soft right now due to availability and high cost of ammo. This seems like another case of the op not liking that answer they're getting.
