Im looking to get one of these..either a Ruger 1705 GP100 .357 or a Smith & Wesson 686 .357... Anybody here shot either one before/own one or have any feedback on them? Thanks!

I have the Ruger (6" Stainless). I found it points more naturally for me than the Smith. Deadly accurate with the right load and nice sights as well. The Hogue grip it comes with is another nice plus and I prefer the "push" cylinder unlock rather than the Smith's slide type. I doubt you could go very wrong with either one so pick the one that points naturally for you.

I have owned both and prefer the Ruger GP 100.
I just recently bought a Ruger SP101 in 357 it's a 5 shot and I absolutely love it.

I own Smith's but have shot the GP 100. I'd have to say I much prefer the triggers on S&W but in fairness mine are all older (the pinned and recessed era that is pre 1982 with some dating to the 1950's)

Another option might be to look for a nice older model 19 on the EE.

I have both.

Smith 686- way better trigger, nicer finish. Forged.

Ruger GP- easier to work on (change springs/front sight etc) Durable. Cast frame.

Winner in my books? S&W.

Used to be a draw as the Rugers were significantly cheaper but that is no longer the case as new rugers are north of $900.

Have both and the way it goes, i tend to prefer the solidity of the Rugers...
I will compairing apples with apples when i get my Ruger GP100 Champion Match in 357 mag...

At the end i like them both, for trigger hard to beat my S&W PC 627- 8 times... JP.

I have fired both the gp and a 586. I prefer my s&w 66 to either, but would take the 686 given the two choices in the OP. I just prefer the feel. Both are excellent choices.

I have had both and shot both lots. The only down side I can see is that it seems to be way harder to sell a used Ruger if you decide to later on then it is to sell the S&W.

Just mt two cwnts worth.

I shot gp100 before and know it's a very good revolver, but my 627 PC is way better out-of-box and I can shoot it DA all day long. While it's not in the same class as gp100 or 686, I think an used 627/327(R8/TRR8) has much better value than the other two.

My GP100 SS 4.2" was my first revolver, and it will always have a special spot in my safe. I've put hundreds of rounds down it (maybe thousands at this point), and I always enjoy it. The trigger has really smoothed out with use, and I also spent quite a few hours smoothing out the sharp edges on the trigger, trigger guard, and hammer with a diamond file, and then polishing it up, so it didn't cut me up when I was shooting it. The finish is not as nice as the Smiths, nor is the trigger, but it is still fun. I put wooden Hogue finger groove grips on mine.

Having said all that, I much prefer my Models 686, 66, 19, 27-2, Python, King Cobra.....They are all 6" of course, but I did have a 6" GP100 for a while as well and traded it. I just like the overall fit, finish, and trigger that much better on the S&W (and won't mention the Colts as they weren't part of OP's options). Of them all, I like the K frame 19/66 more so than the 686 with full lug. The balance and feel works for me. If I could only have one, it would be a M66.
