Ruger 44 carbine AMMO

I just picked up a ruger 44 mag (tube fed) im looking to get factory ammo recommendations from those who use or used these guns

IIRC Mike, the ammo of the day was the Remington 240 grain factory green/yellow box. Can't remember the bullet shape but I think it was semi-jacketed.

I can suggest what not to use ..... Don't use lead bullets. I found that the lead plugged the gas port rather quickly. It took 20 rounds on mine. I am now using American Eagle 240 gr soft points ..... they seem to work fine.

I use Winchester white box I believe it is 240gr it works well in both the tube feed and mag fed and bolt action I have

Quite a bit of lead ahead of the jacket, with a flat nose.
They were also loaded up full tilt.

I have been using American Eagle, Federal, Winchester 240 gr. HP for many years without issue, in my Ruger carbine. The last couple years I have reloading with Hornady 240gr. soft points also without issue.

Lebarons in Ottawa just got a shipment of winchester white box 240 grain JSP. Gonna give them a whirl.

I dunno, I just got the 3 guns, the s/a, the lever and the bolt, haven't got around to shoot'en them, I guess sooner or later I will. More interested in spec's for the s/a, if I see some posted!

I've had several Ruger Carbines...in the 70s I got over a case of Imperial 240 grain jacketed Ammo...They worked well in every regard. Finally started reloading the brass...still used 240 gr jacketed. NO CAST BULLETS

Gonna give the Hornady 240 grainers a shot as well as winchester white box 240s. Hear alot of good things about the Hornady ammo

Winchester white box never cycled well in my Ruger 44. I've had zero issues with Hornady 225/240 and Remington 240's

They still make those, green and white box. Forgot what there called and they are not rounds, perfect for semis..

I have 2. A '71 Finger-grooved and a '76 200th Year Bicentennial. Both feed and shoot either the Remington 240 JHP and the LEVERevolution 225s rather well. I myself am looking forward to reloading for both. I have an about 10lb bag of 240 grain JSPs. Jacketed bullets only!
