Ruger 44 Magnum .. strange reaction

Hi guys.. I would really appreciate your input on why this situation happen..

First, here is my Ruger 44 Magnum

Removed almost everyting for a good cleaning and light oil

Noticed there is a little play here but everything hold tight when assembled.. still could be NOT-normal but i don't really know

Its hard to explain but At the range.. I shoot the first shot.. the bolt goes back but seem to need me to repull slightly on the bolt handle for it to go back at the firing position.

On this picture.. next to a regular 44 magnum handload on the left.. we can see dents in the brass casing

Do you have any idea what is happening to me ? and suggestion on what to do ?

I shot this Ruger the first time without cleaning after receiving it from the old owner.. and i dont remember it doing that nor having any problem.. now after dissasembly, i need to help the bolt get back in position after most shot by lightly pulling the handle back a few millimeter and release it.

Any input are welcome!

Sounds like the linkage for the bolt is binding on the inletting of the stock......somewhere. You could always take it apart again, smear lipstick or crayon on the bolt linkage and reassemble then try cocking. It should at least show where the problem is.
 
Have had one of these Rugers for years without issue. In the 3rd picture it shows the rear of the receiver, which looks loose. It is bolted into the stock by a long bolt which runs up from the butt end access it by taking off the butt plate. Take the gun all apart again and reassemble paying close attention to how things come apart and fit together. These are not the simplest guns to take apart and reassemble but there far from being difficult either. From your description it sounds like you have put something in back a$$wards as you stated it seemed to work fine when you got it.

I would definitely get that receiver block securely fastened into the stock. Reassemble everything. Cycle the action to see if it seems to function without hanging up. Dry fire it. If all seems fine try some live rounds again. If you are not comfortable with all this or it doesn't work afterwards I would suggest taking it to a gunsmith for a look see.

Strip... remove debris and unburned powder residue... then degrease... then oil... then thoroughly wipe away excess... then shoot...

Generally, the tolerances on those guns are so loose (like the 10/22), that they can handle a gummed up action, but there are some that can't... many problems can be solved by running dry.
 
thank you for the advices guys.. i'll re-dissassemble it today..

also want to add that i did not removed the buttplate, or this moving thing .. it was a moving part as soon as the trigger assembly went out of the stock

and fully assembled.. it looks tight and not moving at all..

That is exactly what it is.. 10/22 on steroid that shoot 44 magnum. you can also add that Ruger decided to discontinue this rifle for whatever crazy reason.. and that is one of the most fun rifle i had the pleasure to use.. and also had to sign a contract with Satan with my blood and give him my next born child in exchange of buying one of those..

Ruger 44 mag carbine. Gunbroker has a ton for sale. 18.5" barrel?
 
Hope you get it figured. I have one and love it, too.

My only issue is that I haven't' been able to find a factory rifle round, just the handgun flavoured stuff that doesn't always cycle completely (bolt locks open). Do you have anything that worked well for you? Or was it always fed handloads?
