I recently purchased a new Flattop & was wondering if any of you guys might have one?


I will be reloading for it because ammo is hard to find & would be costly to buy.

I was also reading on the Ruger.com forum yesterday that ruger has stopped making them for the distributor.....
Should be a fun shooter!:)

Yes it's stainless & I did buy it new! Ruger offered these also in 5-1/2" barrel, in both blue & stainless. I believe they made a few in a looong barreled version too.

There were two distributers in the USA, Talo & Lipsey's that Ruger was making them for. Not sure if there are many here in Canada, that's why I was asking. It sure feels good in the hand, & I hope it shoots like it looks & handles....:)

I liked how it felt that I also bought another in .357mag/9mm


 
So thats strictly a 44spl revolver then right? They dont make many of those these days due to the backwards compatibility of a 44mag eh?
 
Thanks! I have one in 357 and it feels a bit heavy. The 44 special should be better. I haven't seen one in stainless or I would have probably pick one up. I'm sure it will shoot great!
 
They come up a fair bit used, but almost all are blue. I wouldn't mind picking one up myself to go with my 44 special S&W snubby, and my 44 Redhawk

Here is a couple of photos to illustrate the difference between the two different frame sizes....

I believe the difference in weight is about 6 oz between them in the same barrel length. Also the grips between the two won't interchange either.

Suther, this flattop .44 shoots the .44 special cartridge only!
 
It isn't as popular, although it is making a bit of a resurgence with the cowboy crowd, but not many guns are chambered in 44 special anymore. Most are 44 mags, which of course will take 44 specials
 
The nice thing about the flat top 44 special is, it is smaller and lighter gun with good caliber and punch to do anything you want.
In stainless would make it great gun for a trap line.
 
I bought a pair of Ruger NM Blackhawks (4-3/4") in .44 Spl. for my wife to use in CAS. Beautiful little guns and great shooters! That was several years ago and she still says - "Don't even think about it ...." when she sees me eyeballing them. This after I sold an M1 to buy them!

Only way they could be better is if they 3-screw like my old Single Six convertible. These are guns that inspire confidence and would make great trail companions. If you need more than six warm .44 Spl. loads with 240 gr bullets, that's the day the bear wins ..... Beats the hell out of an "antique" Wobbly.
 
I always liked my other single action rugers in the larger size, but since I purchased the flattop guns, I like them a bit better in handling & like stated above would make for a fantastic carry gun, if only we could...
Sure am glad I was able to get my hands on these indeed!
 
I would love a stainless one in 45 colt to go with my stainless 45-70 Marlin SBL, but they don't seem to make one other than a Lipsey's creation

In your humble opinion, that is .....

I own a three SS guns and my wife two: a Ruger Vaquero in .44 mag, a S&W 66, a S&W 60 and two Ruger SR1911s. In the past I've had a Ruger Single Six convertible that was also SS. Great guns, all of them.
 
I had considered one, but for me I really do not want another ctg to reload for.

I dial my 44 magnums way down to Special levels, and I also shoot 44-40.

Wish Ruger would get off their duff and make a 44-40 flat top...
