I have a blackhawk bought in 1977 and I'm looking to upgrade the grips because I find them really small. If you have any suggestion just send them my way.Thanks.
I have the same grips as "warp" on my Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt. I haven't shot it with my hot-ish loads yet (250 gr. HC @1150 fps.) but I'm pretty sure they will be better than the Pachmayr rubber grips I have been using. The only downside to me is aesthetic; they look pretty ugly! But even the Pachmayr grips are larger and more hand-filling than the original Ruger ones. I didn't find them uncomfortable, but I'm hoping the big Hogues may be even better.
I have read that many experienced shooters still like the smooth traditional grips and will tuck the little finger under the grip. This causes the gun to sit higher, but apparently it allows the gun to "roll" in the hand as the original plow grips were designed to do, rather than slamming back against the palm. Many high-end revolvers (such as Freedom Arms) come with plain traditional grips. OTOH, the real kickers (.454 Casull etc.) often benefit from the finger-groove "Grippers."
