anyone familiar with the mini-14 in 6.5spc?
just saw it on Rugers web site...do you think it will have better accuracy than its 223 version?
opinions welcome

Check out GunBlast.com he did an article on the rifle and the round.

again i dont see the point of an intermediate Mini-14 round between .223 and 7.62x39mm unless your goal is to spend twice as much for ammo.

on a side note (this is not about the 6.8 SPC just gunblast in general) -- the guy at gunblast praises everything... i dont think ive ever read a negative review there, on anything. beware when reading gun mags/e-zines/articles - they make their living praising stuff.

WSS has then listed on their website. I would love to hear from any owners of this gun because I am curious as to its performance. So who owns one??? Speak up!!!!!:D

There are a review or two in recent gun mags. Check the newstand. Took a quick glance and saw accuracy to be about norm for this rifle - 2MOAish.

I am sure that it will function as well as any MINI 14. Have all the good and bad quirks.

Make a nice short range brush/mid range rifle for deer.

Excuse my ignorance

But what's the ballistics of this 6.8??
I always wanted a M-14 in 6mm-223:)

The 6.8 is 270 cal and is based on the 30Rem case.

Yup it is based off the 25, 30 or 32Rem case. Another fine example of taking something 100 years old and making it new again.:D

Sounds interesting but I see to many drawbacks in the Mini.

1st for reloading .30r brass is much harder to get which kinds restricts you to factory $ stuff!
2nd if clip length is same as most Mini's then most .270 bullets for reloading will to to long in the point & will have to be loaded very deep in the case.

To bad they hadn't went with something like a 7mm-x39 :)

Senior, I am pretty sure they are using new brass, only the origonal design was taken from the Remington case. I have been looking for a source to the brass to neck down to 25 cal and it has proven not easily available yet. Not to us anyway.....

Noel, when you get through playing with the cartridge would you please either post or PM myself with the results. It would make a nice handy .224 or 6mm(more than .223 and less than .22-250) in a short action though, wouldn't it.

My point was .30r brass is an odd size based on nothing else.
If that's what they based the new cartridge on it'll be hard to make it from any other standard case.
