I was browsing by a used gun rack the other day and came across something I've never handled.

A polished Ruger 77/22. It had a Simmons 3X9 22 mag scope and a hard case. It looks brand new. Has the paddle stock.

Anyone have any experience with this 77/22? I am used to Cz452/3/5 and FVSRs.

The issue would be the paddle stock. These things were about $900 new IIRC. Noone wants the paddle stock, not sure if it would be a easy replacement, perhaps a Boyds. I would think that if it had a nice walnut stock, that it would be $700 and not in the rack either.

Might find a stock on the parts EE.

Just wondering if it has open sights ? If yes run back and buy or let me know where to call thank you . All though any 77/22 I've seen was well above $450 even without open sights .
Iron sights just my preference and paddle stocks I've seen usually have them.
If it fits they are a really nice rifle never had any trouble with mine and very accurate with the right ammo.
Top three of my rimfires Ruger 77/22rs 22.lr walnut ,22. magnum paddle stock and CZ 452FS 22. lr.

The paddle stock is ugly although some do like it I am not one of those. I have a 77/22 in .22lr, the wood is very nice, the trigger is good and its a dream to shoot. I bought a CZ 452 7 years ago thinking it would be a upgrade from the 77/22, I've never shot the CZ, I have never found a reason to turn away from the Ruger.

I wish I had room and funds for another project, I would jump on that rifle and get a new stock for it when time allows. (I vaguely recall someone saying the 10/22 stock will work on the 77/22, dont quote me on it, I have never tested the theory.)

That's a great buy
I have one and I would not trade it for anything I have have a few 22s along the way but this is the only one that's sticks
K
This is just my opinion others may vary

My first .22 was one of those, got stolen and found another one 15yrs later. I think they are good hunting rifles, you should buy it or toss a guy a pm for location if your not interested :)
The CZ comes out and shoots some small groups then gets put away, the ruger puts meat in the pot.
Cheers

I have one and its one of my favorites. My CZs group a bit better but this one goes more places. I put a 2-7 leupold on it. Really smooth action and fits all my 1022 mags also. Good buy.

I have four 77/22's... a walnut/blued .22 WMR, a walnut/blued .22 Hornet and two Stainless 77/22's that I converted to .17 HM2's with Volquartsen muzzle weighted barrels... both had the canoe paddle stocks but now wear Boyd's stocks... the canoe paddle stocks may be ugly, but those that love them do so because of how good they feel at the shoulder... Ruger really got the ergonomics just right on the paddle stocks.

I absolutely love mine it has the paddle stock and I don't mind it. Very accurate and a great grouse getter. That is one rifle I will never get rid of.

I've had a canoe paddle stainless with sights for about 15 years. The only other rifles I've kept that long are family heirlooms, so that says something about what I think about them.
