Bought a ruger 77/17HMR last year and realize you can swap out barrels on them, 22 long rifle 22 win mag 22mach2 and 17hmr

so how to do that, why buy the bottome metal of course,

and how to do that, us websites that uction off that sort of thing, mmmmm with the importation stuff I called western gunparts in edmonton alberta. Nice lady said i was nutz trying to swap a 17hmr or win mag for a long rifle and it could not be done, so the boss gets on the phone and i explain they have interchangable barrels and I would swap out a barrel as well.

They have agreed to order in a half dozen or so (he did not want to just order 1 for me) and they will be in about may 1st or so,

SO ORDER A BARREL FROM ONE OF THE SPONSERS FOR NEXT YEAR AND GET READY TO HAVE SOME FUN.

the bottom metal is for 22 long rifle or 17 mach2 (take the same metal)

OR

22 win mag or 17 hmr (take the same metal)

BUT MAKE SURE TO CHANGE THE BARREL OVER TO THE TYPE OF BOTTOM METAL AND AMMUNITION BEING USED,

can hardly wait until spring, will get the part numbers shortly,

they should be under 100 bucks tax and shipping paid, (as they are 52 us $)

hope this is of some interest, thinking of ordering a half dozen lilja rimfire barrels for the remington 504 sako p94 ruger 77/17hmr now to 22 long rifle, and of course a couple of lilja calfee taper match eps chamber for the Anschutz 2013 pair I just bought

Hi Jeff,

I have entertained the thought of getting a 77/22 and upgrading it seeing as how Lilja makes a barrel for them. Never got around to ever doing it but it would be interesting to see how it turned out.

Let me know how the 2013's go. Did you get the BR ones? Should be nice none the less (although i have heard that the 2013's can be a bit hard to tune just right with the 4 action screws but ? )

It would drive you mad Jordan, for starters, that Ruger two-part bolt design can not be fixed, even if you would tighten it up with a new bushing. The 77/22 will always be a good looking plinker, no mather what you would do to it.

disagree

Each is entitled to his own opinion, but i disagree. This was shot with my 77/22 at 50 yards with a $75 Green Mountain stainless barrel in it, the two groups beside were one before and one after using Remington subs. I have also recrowned and rechambered the original barrel, and it will shoot 1/2" groups regularly at 50 as well. I really do hate the 77/22 bashing, especially from people who have never owned one. I understand that the bolt is a bit different on the magnum and 17hmr models, so headspace could be an issue if you start with those two calibers. I have shot magnum with mine and it shot just fine. I have 4 barrels and 3 different cailbers for mine as well. I have since bought a 77/17hmr and is shoots very well, first groups were in the 7/8" range at 100. There is lots of info on caliber swaps on Rimfirecentral. JMO
