Just picked up a 77 22 Hornet and would like to find some bolt shims.
I have measured the space between the bot face and the barrel with a feeler gauge and seems to be a tight 3 thou.
I know there is a supplier in the states but would like to find some in Canada.

You can buy shim stock and punch out your own.

But really, anyone that has them here in Canada likely bought them from the US supplier and marked them up for their trouble.

Cheers

I seriously doubt it will help accuracy... A tight 3 thou is more like 2 thou and 2 thou means diddly squat with a factory barrel and chamber. At least that has been my experience.

Thanks all,
I am inclined to agree with you guntech. Once I get my dies and start reloading I am sure I will be able to make sure that my reloads will fit tighter in the chamber that factory rounds.
I have read that the hornet is very finicky and that's why I will find it a challenge.
Just thought I would like to know where I can find shims if I need them.
I will keep posting when I get my dies.

Rimmed cases as the Hornet are severely limited in accuracy potential because of the rim... All other things being equal they will never compete with a .221 Fireball or a .222.

That's for sure Guntech
I am hoping for at least 1.5" at 100 yds. from the Ruger. Made up a tool today to measure head to datum line on what shoulder the Hornet has and what a eye opener. As much a .040 difference in length between fire cases from my Ruger and H&R's long chamber. Not sure if I can have the head spade moved to the shoulder rather than the head once I get my dies. The H&R will shoot 1.25" all day with Hornady 35gr V-Mas's.

Guys have had luck with shims in this gun. Some others haven't. It is worth a try. Better yet, keep an eye out for the browning 22 hornet. They have always had a better reputation than the Ruger. Mine shoots very well.

Thanks acc. I had no intention of buying the Ruger but when a deal comes along.... you know the rest.
So far only 10 rounds to set up a scope and that was ammo that I got with the gun.
I do like my Rugers but will have a look at the Browning when I find one. I know where there is some left hand action models.
Hopefully it will come to life when I start reloading.
As far as shims go, I did find them in the US and will order from them if I need to.
